今年的國王選秀饒有興味，因為他們挑選了 Kevin Martin 與 Ricky Minard 這兩名球員。
雖然身高體型天差地遠，球風也大異其趣，這兩人卻有相似的背景 – 他們都是從 NCAA 小學校闖出名號，這在今年的選秀會十分難得。

NCAA 第一級有三十三個聯盟，彼此規模實力起伏甚大，一個在小聯盟殺翻天的選手可能跑去頂級聯盟（如台灣球迷熟悉的 ACC 聯盟，包含北卡杜克等名校）連先發都有問題，因此小聯盟球員不但曝光率少，更難一窺 NBA 的大門。

不是依恃天分潛力的高中棄學生，也不是歐洲朦朧美的外籍球員，更不是就讀容易佔據媒體視線的名門大校。這兩人要冒出頭，必須比旁人多花一倍的心血與努力。

Martin 跟 Minard 做到了這點。

以美國籃球的生態來講，球探向下紮根的年齡層越來越低，資質優異的好手大概中學時期就會被鎖定，引起美國大學眾多名校的激烈爭奪，搶剩的球員才會淪落到小學校，這些球員即使有臥虎藏龍之輩，通常都有讓名校為之卻步的問題，不是學業成績太差，就是有難以彌補的弱點。

也就是說，他們是天生有缺陷的球員。

國王卻同時用第一輪二十六順位與第二輪四十八順位選擇了這兩名球員。





Kevin Martin，他的缺陷是太瘦。

他高一身高有五呎八，體重卻只有九十磅（如果你對英制沒概念，這相當於身高一百七十三公分，卻只有四十公斤，比孫燕姿還瘦），這種弱不禁風的體格讓球探直搖頭。雖然他高中拼命猛吃，到畢業時變成六呎五吋、一百四十五磅，卻依舊離籃球員的正常規格有一段距離﹔雖然他高四成績不錯，每場平均二十二分，還是沒什麼學校想招收他。於是他只好到 Western Carolina 這個位於 Southern 聯盟的小學校就讀。

而 Martin 在大一就證明他的得分能力在大學沒問題，平均二十二分是全美有字號的攻擊好手，這三年也不斷進步，不過小聯盟嘛！對手本來就不強，這種成績沒什麼好誇口的。但是 Martin 卻把握住少數跟大學校交戰的機會，吸引到球探目光。

今年他在對上喬治亞、維吉尼亞理工、阿肯色大學這些大學校的賽事中，分別拿下 44分、24分、33 分，而且命中率很高，去年夏天他們學校跑去加拿大打友誼賽，其中有一場被當作加拿大國家隊的靶子隊，沒想到 Martin 在現康大的 Denham Brown 防守下拿了三十五分，還有幾次玩票性質地打控球跟 NBA 小牛隊的 Steve Nash 放對。

於是他在今年以大三生的身份棄學試探身價，結果在球隊測試中表現出奇地好，身價節節高漲，後來連芝加哥選前營都沒去參加，他是今年許多球隊測試的垂直起跳高度紀錄保持人，大約有三十七英吋。最後才能在第一輪尾端中選。

說來說去，主打得分後衛的 Martin 到底是什麼類型的球員？

首先他身高有六呎七吋，雖然努力增重，但依舊只有一百八十五磅，還是瘦皮猴（請想像 Reggie Miller、Kerry Kittles、Tayshaun Prince，大概就是那副模樣），他在測試期間展現很好的空手走位、快速切入與速度切換的能力，整體運動力就算不是今年後衛中最好的，也相距不遠，至少會是跑快攻的一把好手。

他在小聯盟由於球隊就看他一人表演，因此磨出很多種出手方式，往左、往右、平移、後跳，甚至彎曲身體都能投籃，由於他夠高，又會在最高點才出手（感謝三十七吋的彈跳力），因此很難封阻，投射弧度也不錯。他的體重輕，起跳速度又比常人快，所以外號叫「貓」。

類似控衛的持球能力評價也很好，球探認為他以後應該能藉此發展更強的切入與中距離，喜歡砍外線，投籃手感不錯（請參考他的大學罰球命中率），因此投射穩定度應該還能繼續進步。

他的問題有兩個，第一個依舊是他的體重，不管怎麼看還是太瘦了，雖然過去一年有鍛鍊上半身強度，但是下盤還是不夠力。他的肩膀很窄，因此以後不管怎麼長肉，大概還是這種樣子，不過有 Tayshaun Prince 的成功前例，如果多作重量訓練並適應 NBA 層級的衝撞，瘦歸瘦，還是能生存。

另一個是防守，由於大學在 Western Carolina 這種小學校打球，Martin 只要顧進攻就可以了，他的攻擊數據十分優異，但也很少把心思放在防守上。目前他是比較偏向攻擊面的球員，像 Prince 那樣利用長臂與步伐基礎磨出防守本事是他未來的課題。

雖然是小學校出身，但純以天分運動力來說，Martin 有 NBA 第一輪的資質，活塞今年的冠軍讓 Tayshaun Prince 這類型球員的功用更為突顯，Martin 可說是鐵骨瘦猴派的 NBA 新血輪。





而 Ricky Minard，他的缺陷是太矮。

六呎四吋、一百九十八磅。大四畢業生 Minard 的竄起是另一個故事，他是在 Morehead State，另一個位於 Ohio Valley Conference 聯盟的小學校打球。如果兩個月前有人跟你說 Minard 會在今年的選秀會上中選，你一定會一笑置之。

Minard 高中時因為好友的緣故，很早就決定去 Morehead State 這個小學校就讀，並沒有多等一下，看看名校會不會對他伸出誘惑之手。他大學前三年都是矮 SG 球路，這種類型的球員在 NCAA 實在太多，隨便出門都會撞到幾個，除非你是像 Dwyane Wade 這種率隊打入最後四強的球員，要不然很難獲得媒體的注意。

Minard 去年有參加芝加哥選前營試探身價，當時他表現不錯，卻也發現自己不足之處，因此在退出選秀後的大四這年，他開始走雙能衛路線，多傳球幫助隊友融入進攻，在該投籃還是傳球的決策掌握上大有進步，同時由於隊伍的需要，他有時會代打控衛，這些都讓他成為一個更全面成熟的球員。

大四畢業時，他是 Morehead State 這個小學校的總得分記錄保持人，也是 OVC 這個小聯盟史上唯一達到兩千三百分、七百籃板、兩百助攻的球員。不過小聯盟嘛！這對他的 NBA 中選機會幫助有限。

於是 Minard 開始自力救濟，他可以說是選前最勤奮的球員，不管是 PIT 還是芝加哥選前營這種大型賽事，或是各隊的球隊測試，他全都風塵僕僕地去參加，至少跑了十九隊（接近全聯盟隊數的三分之二），可能是今年參加最多球隊測試的球員，到後來即使肌腱受傷還是繼續奔波，就是為了打開 NBA 之門。

他在 PIT 與芝加哥選前營的表現非常傑出，吸引到許多球隊的注意，尤其是國王隊更在之後對他安排了兩次球隊測試，最後他果然美夢成真，讓國王以第二輪將他選去。

Minard 本來的尷尬在於他的身高，打二號嫌太矮，打一號卻又欠缺純控球的組織能力，但在芝加哥選前營時，他卻讓球探相信他會是一個好用的雙能衛。

首先他正式測量只比六呎五矮一點（穿鞋後六呎四點二五），速度與彈跳力都不錯，持球能力頗佳，在芝加哥比賽有時打控衛也有模有樣，防守更是受到讚揚，而且最讓球探稱道的是，即使在選前營這種必須多展現自己的比賽，Minard 依舊打得「自信卻不自私」，沒有出手的好機會就傳球，看來很享受比賽的樂趣。他在場上能做到許多事，球探認為他有 Ronald Murray 的影子。

小聯盟的標籤讓他選前比別人辛苦，他抱持的想法就是不管在球隊測試遇到的對手是誰，擺平就是了。以他的表現來看，也的確有這樣的意味，雖然在老鷹隊測試中遇上像 Kirk Snyder 與 Luke Jackson 這樣首輪等級的球員還是吃虧（不過他那次的表現比高中生 J. R. Smith 好喔），但以第二輪球員來說，他的確有擠入球隊開季名單的可能。

雖然很難擔任先發級球員，因為他遇到更強壯的球員會被限制住，身高打二號也容易被打點，但如果以一個替補雙能衛的角度來看，他有可能在 NBA 找到飯碗。





不管國王隊的戰力需求與隊形打法是否適合這兩名球員生存發展（這不在本文範圍內，請期待地下即將出爐的選秀分析），沙加緬度今年在外籍球員與高中生充斥下，挑來這兩名小校球員，在各隊選秀中可說獨樹一幟。

英雄不怕出身低，這兩名本有缺陷的球員能夠力爭上游，就值得肯定。

有時太完美反而過於虛幻，有缺陷才能觸動內心，因為那投射出我們眼中的自己。

不管你是太矮還是太瘦，只要肯努力，就會有機會。
