Brazil striker Ronaldo admits his place in the team is under threat after they won the Confederations Cup without him.
The Real Madrid striker's replacement Adriano was the tournament's leading scorer after Ronaldo withdrew, saying he needed time off to rest.
"The coach said that my place in the side is guaranteed but I don't think it works that way," said Ronaldo.
"I know that if I don't score goals he won't pick me. But I did what I thought was right which was to have a holiday."
He added: "I wanted to give priority to preparing for the World Cup next year.
"I want to prepare very well so I get to the end of the season without any physical problems. I want it to be the year of my life."
Carlos Alberto Parreira's Brazil thrashed arch-rivals Argentina 4-1 in the final on Wednesday with Adriano bagging a brace.
