PREVIEW: DEPORTIVO - MARSEILLE (INTERTOTO 21h00)
Tuesday 9th August, 2005 -- The first chapter of the Intertoto's final will occur today at Riazor. Deportivo will try to obtain the advantage without the participation of Capdevila and Munitis. Meanwhile, Olympique Marseille will have several absences in defence and Luyindula will also miss the match. A spot in the next UEFA cup is the award for the winner of this series.
DEPORTIVO: WITHOUT MUNITIS
The only doubt of Caparrós is who will replace Pedro Munitis in the left wing. The Cantabrian player will miss the match for accumulation of yellow cards. It's probable that Albert Luque will be selected for the job; also, Víctor will play on the right and Iván Carril will be waiting for an opportunity on bench.
The defensive line will also experience a modification since Joan Capdevila will miss the game. Enrique Romero will be moved to the left side and Juanma will make his debut as starter in the center position. The defensive line will be completed with Jorge Andrade and Manuel Pablo. Franciso Molina will try to celebrate his 35 years with a victory. The Valencian goalkeeper has recovered the place in the starting lineup that he lost last season.
In midfield Sergio and Aldo Duscher will continue with the defensive functions and the duo Tristán-Rúben Castro will play upfront. Once again Valerón will start on the bench and he will be joined by Munúa, De Guzmán, Scaloni, Acuña, Iván Carril and Momo.
Coach Joaquín Caparrós talked before to the match about the importance of not allowing goals at Riazor: "It's very important the fact of not receiving any goals in this confrontation; however, you never know. Maybe if we achieve an important difference it will worse and we will pay the price in the second leg game." The Sevillan coach believes that the decisive factor will be the confrontation to be played in France: "The second leg match will be an important test for us, but I don't think that the fans of Marseille are different than those of Newcastle, Sevilla, Real Madrid or Barcelona. My men have enough experience to mange all these cases."
MARSEILLE: PROBLEMS IN THE DEFENSIVE LINE
The French club has several absences in their defensive sector including goalkeeper Fabien Barthez (suspended) and the defenders Meité (suspended), André Luis (not inscribed) Beye (suspended) and Lamouchi (injured). The situation will cause the participation of Nakata and Taiwo in the starting lineup.
More troubles appears in the striking zone with Péguy Luyindula injured. The striker suffers from a back pain and his withdrawal was decided after a last physical test yesterday. Meanwhile, Wilson Oruma suffered a hit in the knee during the game against Lens, but he should be ready for the match at Riazor. Franck Ribery affected by a flue started to train on Sunday and he will also take part in the game.
Coach Jean Fernández admitted the defensive problems that he's facing: "I don't have a magic spell to solve this situation, but I think that we can improve our work if we balance the squad. The solution isn't only a fact that depends on me, it's a collective situation. About the offensive work, I'm not worried since we have several players returning to action."
