REACTIONS TO THE INTERTOTO VICTORY
Thursday 28th July, 2005 -- Deportivo's 2-1 victory was evaluated as a short result by Caparrós, but the Utrera-born trainer is happy with the performance of his men. On the other side Souness said that despite of the loss the result is still a positive achievement. Now it’s time to prepare the second leg game.
Coach Joaquín Caparrós was satisfied with the performance of his men, however, he said that the narrow score was a negative thing for them: "I'm happy with the work of our players. I also believe that the 2-1 score is pretty short, but if we continue in this way we will have good choices to win this tie. They (Newcastle) have a better physical condition, but we have velocity as our advantage. that's why we tried to make moves quickly."
Asked by some English journalist the Sevillan coach said that he will try to present the same offensive squad in St. James Park: "We will play in the same way. the objective is to be far away from our area. The team must try to avoid situations like the goal allowed today, but who knows... when the game starts there's nothing you can do."
Rúben Castro had another brilliant performance at Riazor. The Canarian striker showed his satisfaction with his goal scored: "I'm enjoying the several opportunities and now I have three games in a row scoring goals. I also want to thank Tristán for his effort. We fight with Newcastle's defenders and we presented a very good performance."
Jorge Andrade was the hero of the night with his incredible goal. The Portuguese defender explained the situation: "Newcastle's defenders didn't expected my move and they left and big hole in their zone. I just followed the road and I scored a wonderful goal. Now it's time to be humble again." Andrade didn't want to give details about his celebration when he kissed Deportivo's logo on his shirt, but he showed a desire for a salary improvement: "It was a dedication to my wife and after that... a thing that only matters to myself. I progressed in the pitch and I hope that my president and my agent will do it too."
Despite of the final score Magpies' coach, Graeme Souness was satisfied with the performance of his squad: "We have come here and played a team of internationals, so we can't be unhappy with the score. I would have liked to have created more but you look at our team and our bench, and then look at their team and their bench, and it's men against boys in certain areas. You have to be happy with the result." |
