Liverpool are close to sealing a year-long loan move for Albacete winger Mark Gonzalez.
The deal is likely to be confirmed providing the Chile international is granted a work permit in order to facilitate the temporary switch to Anfield.
Gonzalez has been recommended to Rafa Benitez by his first team coach Paco Herrera, who is a former manager of Albacete. Herrera attended several matches last term and the 21-year-old impressed sufficiently to earn himself a place on the European champions' list of targets.
A knee injury in April threatened the move but medical tests seem sure to prove that Gonzalez is back to full fitness.
The loan transfer will be with a view to a €7 million permanent deal and Albacete will not stand in the player's way following their relegation to Segunda Liga.
After arriving from Universidad Catolica, he showed strength and dribbling ability in La Liga and is to become the latest part of Rafa's revolution on Merseyside.
Liverpool have confirmed they are in talks with Albacete over a loan move with a view to a permanent switch for the player and that the move was subject to winning a work permit.
"We are in discussions with Albacete with a view to bringing the player to the club on August 1 for a season long loan," said Liverpool spokesman Ian Cotton.
"The deal is not yet finalised and would be subject to a work permit being granted."
Villarreal keeper Jose Reina is also on the brink of completing his proposed move to Liverpool.
It is anticipated that he will fly to Merseyside on Sunday before being unveiled to the media on Monday.
"To sign for Liverpool would be an important step for my career," he told As.
"I have spoken with Rafa Benitez and he has said that he trusts in my skills and I cannot pass up this opportunity.
"The Premiership attracts me a lot and, more still, to play for Liverpool.
"I have many friends there and I believe the club are qualified to achieve great things." |
