Owen in dark over Gerrard
Real Madrid star Michael Owen insists he is in the dark over Steven Gerrard's current situation at Liverpool.
The Reds captain was the subject of frenzied speculation on Monday as his agent told Sky Sports News that talks over a new deal for the midfielder had broken down and were unlikely to resume.
However Reds boss Rafa Benitez has since reiterated his desire to keep Gerrard at Anfield, and indeed sees him one day progressing into the management setup at the UEFA Champions League winners.
Rumours linking the dynamic midfielder with a move to join Owen at the Bernabeu refuse to subside, but the striker is adamant that he cannot shed light on Gerrard's future destination despite his close relationship with his international colleague.
The Real striker denied that he had talked with Gerrard regarding his potential exit from Anfield, although suggested that his key role in landing the European Cup for the fifth time in Liverpool's history should not be forgotten by the fans whatever eventualities occur over the summer.
"I saw Stevie at my wedding about a week ago, that was the last I saw of him and we were talking about other things, not where he's going to move or not going to move," Owen told Sky Sports News.
"I'm really not sure, obviously he's a really important player for Liverpool and I suppose all the fans will be praying he stays.
"But I mean whatever he does he's just won the European Cup and his goal against Olympiakos in the qualifying stage was probably as important as any.
"If he hadn't scored that it would have been a nightmare season for them.
"After that they went from strength to strength and the final was a game everyone will remember and it was an unbelievable occasion for the club."
