Inter miss out on Lazio duo Wednesday 25 January, 2006

Inter’s proposed deal to sign Aparecido Cesar and Simone Inzaghi appears to have fallen through after Nerazzurri owner Massimo Moratti and Lazio President Claudio Lotito failed to agree terms.
With the two sides playing in the Italian Cup last night it was expected that the matter would be concluded in Rome yesterday, but it seems as though Moratti was reluctant to strike a January deal for the duo.
"I’d say that the Lazio deal has dropped off," said Moratti. "I haven’t spoken to Lotito and there is nothing new to add."
The validity of the Inter chief’s claim was brought into question by Lotito, however, who suggested Moratti had simply lost interest.
"I don’t think they were interested in pressing ahead with the deal," he replied. "We didn’t put anyone on the market."
The reason it is thought the deal failed is because, in the case of Inzaghi, Inter seem to be coping well without Obafemi Martins and Alvaro Recoba, with Dejan Stankovic also demonstrating that he can play in an advanced striking role.
Any purchase of another forward would help matters in the short-term, but then lead to a surplus of strikers when the Nigerian returns from international duty and Recoba recovers from injury.
Inter also refused to part-exchange their promising Brazilian youth player Siqueira in addition to midfielder Alberto Quadri, who is currently on loan at C1 side Pizzighettone.
Cesar, meanwhile, is a free agent in the summer and the Nerazzurri were reluctant to shell out for the player, who is injured, at this moment in time.
