fr:soccernet.com--Bolton have accepted a bid from Saudi Arabia club Al Ittihad for striker Jared Borgetti.

The 32-year-old year Mexico international is expected to travel to the Middle East shortly to discuss personal terms.

Borgetti failed to make an impact in his debut season in England but did play in the World Cup.

However his days at Bolton appear to be numbered.

'I am hopeful the deal will be concluded this week,' manager Sam Allardyce told the club's website.

'It hasn't worked out for Jared at Bolton. He needs to find regular football to enhance his career prospects.'

Meanwhile Allardyce has decided not to pursue an interest in former Lecce defender Lorenzo Stovino.

The Italian is looking for a new challenge after leaving the club in the summer and trained at Bolton last week.

But Allardyce said: 'He is not the player we need, so our search will go on.''

Manager Sam Allardyce has called on the 32-year-old Mexico striker as he is down on numbers.

He said: 'Jared is still our player. He has not been able to reach personal terms and the deal has stalled for the time being.'

fr:soccernet.com--Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder is refusing to rule out a swoop for £10million-rated Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuyt after watching the player in action in Amsterdam on Sunday.

Kuyt was unimpressive in his side's 2-0 LG Tournament win over Middlesbrough - but Roeder believes the Dutch international is well worth another look.

Roeder said: 'I would have no reason to remove him, or a couple of other targets, from my list. We will be studying him again at the weekend as we are two or three other strikers.

'He played well and I did not see any reason why we should not go and watch him again. But that does not mean we are going to be bidding for him, or that he is coming here,' Roeder told Newcastle's official website.

Roeder is certainly likely to be put off by Feyenoord's prohibitive valuation of the player and with time running out before the start of the new season, is also turning his attention elsewhere.

Chief on his list of alternatives is Obafemi Martins, who has handed in a transfer request at Inter Milan. Roeder admitted: 'Martins is a good player. He is different - very quick and strong.'

• Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder faces a selection dilemma ahead of his side's UEFA Cup second qualifying round first-leg clash with FK Ventspils in Riga on Thursday night.

Roeder has included wantaway pair Jean Alain Boumsong and Albert Luque in his squad but knows naming them in his line-up could make them ineligible in Europe for prospective future employers.

fr:thefa.com--Manchester City have completed the signing of Tunisian World Cup defender Hatem Trabelsi from Ajax.

The experienced full-back was forced to come through a series of stringent medical tests before agreeing what is believed to be a pay-as-you-play deal with the Blues. Once courted by Manchester United and Arsenal, Trabelsi's ability is not in question but a series of knee injuries have placed a question mark over his durability.

Trabelsi still requires a work permit before officially being unveiled as a City player but, having seen his contract run out in Amsterdam, Pearce believes his sixth close-season signing represents an astute piece of business.

"He is one of the best Bosmans of the summer," Pearce told www.mcfc.co.uk "He has played at the highest level for Ajax, and been to three World Cups. He captains his country as well, so it is a good CV.

"I have watched him play for Ajax over the last three years and been very impressed with him.

"He is an attacking full-back we're just waiting on that work permit now."

Trabelsi's arrival is sure to place a further question mark over the future of former England international Danny Mills, who remains at City despite falling out of favour with Pearce at the back end of last season.
