KUYT PROUD TO BE A RED

Dutch international Dirk Kuyt reflected on his dream move to Liverpool and declared: "It is a special feeling to be here."  
Rafael Benitez's new signing said he can't wait to get started in a red shirt and revealed he had no hesitation once Liverpool came in for him.
  
"I think Liverpool is a fantastic club with a lot of great history and it really is a dream to sign for them," enthused Kuyt.
  
"There were other clubs from England interested in me but Liverpool gave me that special feeling to make me want to play for them. I have said all along
the only club I would have left Feyenoord for is Liverpool and I'm really happy to be here.
  

"It really is a big honour for me to play for Liverpool. I watched a lot of Liverpool matches on the television in Holland. I watched the Champions League final which was the most crazy match I've ever seen! It was great for Liverpool to win it and always when Liverpool play in finals they are crazy matches like the FA Cup and UEFA Cup in 2001.
  
"I have always loved watching Liverpool play. I won't lie and say I have been a fan since I was two years old but this is a special club with a lot of history
that I admire very much. It is a dream to play for them."
  
Kuyt also revealed he won't set himself any personal goal targets but promised he would give his all for Liverpool.
  
"I won't say I'm going to score 20 or 30 goals this season as for me the most important thing is the team wins and I am a player that wants to win trophies with this club," added the new Reds number 18.
  
"I can make goals as well as scoring them and I don't feel any extra pressure as I'm used to it."

fr:soccernet.com--Blackburn look set to sign long-term target Andre Ooijer after having an offer accepted for the PSV Eindhoven defender.

It is understood the fee for the 32-year-old is in the region of £2.1million.

Blackburn boss Mark Hughes said: 'We have been looking to add to our central defensive options all this summer.

'Ooijer has great experience. He has played at the highest level and would be a real asset for us.'

Ooijer has been a long-term target for Hughes and his departure from PSV was virtually guaranteed when he made himself unavailable for last weekend's match against NEC Nijmegen.

Coach Ronald Koeman explained by the player's absence by saying: 'He indicated he was not mentally fit and felt incapable of playing.'

The Holland international, could be on board in the next 24 hours.

Tottenham link rubbished by Ajax defender

Ajax defender Zdenek Grygera has distanced himself from speculation linking him with a move to Tottenham.

Spurs, who face Sheffield United at White Hart Lane tonight, were reportedly interested in Grygera but the player insists he does not see his future in the Premiership.

The Czech star is refusing to sign an extension to his contract which has 12 months left to run.

Grygera said: 'I know nothing specific. Tottenham are a high-quality team but England would not be my first choice, although I am not saying no.

'If you are choosing a club, you always consider if you know someone already there.

'Tottenham have a Dutch coach and also Edgar Davids - they would be able to understand me.

'If there is an interesting and specific offer from a club that has a good reputation in Europe, I would not be against it.

'I have one year left on my contract and I am not willing to extend it so my future will be resolved next summer at the latest.'

Meanwhile Spurs are sweating on the fitness of England striker Jermain Defoe ahead of tonight's clash with Neil Warnock's Premiership newcomers.

Defoe bruised his foot in the 2-0 defeat by Bolton on Saturday and will undergo a late fitness test.

Jol said: 'Jermain is a worry. He bruised his foot but he's a tough lad and maybe he'll be in the squad, we'll have to see.'

Spurs lost 2-0 at the Reebok stadium on Saturday and must now go into their clash against United sweating on the fitness of England striker Defoe.

'The second one was a great goal by Ivan Campo and sometimes you have got to hold your hands up. We just didn't perform on the day though.

'Hopefully we can get back to winning ways, put Bolton behind us and work towards it not happening again.'
