EVERTON SET TO SIGN LESCOTT
Everton are poised to make Wolves defender Joleon Lescott their latest summer signing.
A fee for the 23-year-old has been agreed between the clubs, and Lescott is holding talks with the Barclays Premiership club today, and undergoing a medical.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey said: "We have been in discussion with a number of clubs interested in signing Joleon and have agreed a transfer fee with Everton.
"Joleon is this morning undergoing a medical examination and, subject to the outcome of that, we expect to conclude the transfer which will reflect the player's value."
Everton signed Andrew Johnson from Crystal Palace earlier this week, for a club record fee of £8.6million, and although the price for Lescott is currently undisclosed, he is not expected to come cheap.
The former England Under-21 international was named in the PFA team of the year for the Coca-Cola Championship and has made over 230 appearances for the club where he began as a youth player.
Lescott signed a two-and-a-half-year contract at Wolves last October, but their failure to earn promotion has made the young defender an attractive target for top-flight clubs.
He missed out on Wolves' campaign in the Premiership in 2003-04, when he was forced to undergo surgery on both knees, but was ever-present last season and voted supporters' player of the year. |
