Lescott passes Toffees medical
Sat 03 Jun, 11:30 AM
Wolves centre-back Joleon Lescott edged a step closer to his move to Everton by passing a medical at the club and agreeing personal terms. The 23-year-old is set to move to Goodison Park in a deal worth around ?.5million when the last details of the transfer are finalised.
After signing England striker Andrew Johnson for ?.6million, Everton boss David Moyes will take his summer spending past the ?4million mark.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey said: "The fee was agreed last week but, as ever, these things are never straight-forward. The devil is in the detail and discussions with Everton are ongoing.
"Joleon played in every game for Wolves last season and, as we expected, he has passed his medical and is fit to play."
Lescott has been earmarked for a future in the top flight but he missed Wolves' 2003-04 season in the Premiership through injury.
He was the cornerstone of Wolves' defence last season but Glenn Hoddle's men could not make it into the play-offs, leading to speculation surrounding Lescott's future.
Premiership newcomers Reading were linked with a bid for the centre-back, as were Aston Villa, Newcastle and Spanish side Sevilla until a fee was agreed with Everton for the former England Under-21 international. |
