England defender Glen Johnson has become Portsmouth FC's first signing of the summer, joining the south-coast club on a season-long loan from English champions Chelsea FC.
'Great opportunity'
The 21-year-old, who made just 16 first-team appearances for West Ham United FC before joining Chelsea for €8.5m in 2003, said: "Moving to Portsmouth is a great opportunity for me to play regular Premiership football again and hopefully force myself back into the England set-up ahead of the next [UEFA] European Championship. The club have big ambitions and I'm looking forward to playing a part in them."
Adams on board
Redknapp also confirmed today that the former Arsenal FC and England captain Tony Adams will be working alongside him from 1 July. Redknapp said: "Tony is a guy I have a lot of respect for and feel he can do a great job for us. He knows the game inside out and I'm really looking forward to him joining Pompey and to starting to work alongside me."
