Espanyol have signed winger Rufete following his release by Valencia.
The Catalans stepped in to offer the 29-year-old a three-year deal and he will be officially unveiled on Wednesday afternoon provided he passes a routine medical.
The news will come as a welcome boost for Espanyol who were left disappointed by midfielder Denny Landzaat's decision to join Wigan at their expense earlier in the week.
Rufete is an experienced performer who operates on the right-side of midfield - a position Espanyol have been keen to strengthen.
He spent the last five seasons at Valencia and has three international caps to his name.
However, he fell out of favour at the Mestalla last term and saw his contract annulled despite having a further year of it left to run.
