Hamburg are aiming to thwart Bolton Wanderers' hopes of landing Barcelona playmaker Javier Saviola.

The Argentina international is facing an uncertain future after spending the past two seasons away from the Spanish champions.

Greek giants Panathinaikos have made a bid for the player, while Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has denied an interest in Saviola, following claims from his agent that the schemer wants a move to North London.

Arsenal's Premiership contemporaries Bolton have long been linked with a swoop for the 24-year-old, who is weighing up his options.

But the latest reports in Spain suggest that ambitious German outfit Hamburg have expressed an interest in the player.

Hamburg have asked for information from Barcelona and would be able to offer European football to Saviola if a deal is agreed between the clubs.

Barcelona admitted prior to the weekend that it remains possible for the South American to stay at the club, but he is unlikely to be considered a key figure by coach Frank Rijkaard.

Sevilla FC are to sign Uruguay striker Ernesto Chevantón on a five-year contract from AS Monaco FC.

Prolific scorer
The 25-year-old has cost a reported €8m. He had spent the past two campaigns with the principality club, scoring 20 goals in 50 Ligue 1 appearances having joined them after a three-season stay with Italian side US Lecce. "We have an agreement with Sevilla," Monaco general manager Marc Keller said. Chevantón has scored seven goals in 21 international matches for his country. Sevilla, the UEFA Cup holders, will enter the 2006/07 edition in September's first round and have already signed German defender Andreas Hinkel, Danish midfielder Christian Poulsen and Portuguese midfielder Duda this summer.
