Inter midfielder David Pizarro will not complete his expected transfer to Roma, Giallorossi boss Luciano Spalletti confirmed on Friday.
The Chilean was all set to put pen to paper on a capital contract this week yet Spalletti brought an end to the saga during a Press conference at Trigoria.
“Pizarro is not coming to Roma,” he stated. “The player was not convinced of moving and has changed his mind.
“Our directors went to Milan last night to finalise everything,” he added. “We acted correctly at all times by contacting his club first and then his agent.
“But someone at Inter probably was able to convince him that he was still an important player for them.
“Roma did everything possible. We wanted Pizarro because we thought he could take us on to another level.
“However, I’m not going to go around and beg people to come here. Those who don’t know this environment have no idea of what they are missing.
“Without Pizarro, now we have to evaluate our situation and go for other targets. Who? We can’t say…”
Roma and Inter had agreed a £4m co-ownership deal on Thursday, with the Giallorossi offering Pizarro a four-year contract worth £1.1m per season.
However, reports suggested the 27-year-old Chilean did not intend to lower his current Inter salary which is £1.4m per season, plus bonuses.
Roma will now probably focus on targeting Alou Diarra of Lens who has been a confirmed objective for some time.
Roma had agreed a £3.4m fee with the French club to sign the World Cup finalist, but negotiations stalled in view of the proposed imminent signing of Pizarro. |
