STRIKER SWOOP

Sheffield United striker Geoff Horsfield has agreed to a six-month loan deal with Leeds United.

The former West Brom marksman agreed to the switch on Thursday afternoon and Kevin Blackwell is hoping to throw him straight into the fray against Norwich on Saturday.

"He is raring to go and it will nice to see him in a white shirt," said the Leeds boss.

"It's a six-month loan to start with and we'll see how things go after that."

The move will bring welcome respite for Geoff, who made just one appearance for Sheffield United following his move to Bramall Lane last season.

The 32-year-old is also something of a lucky charm, having won previous promotions with West Brom, Birmingham, Fulham and Halifax Town.

With Richard Cresswell sidelined for the start of the season, the arrival of Geoff provides United with additional striking power.

Jones Signs On Loan
Wednesday have completed the signing of Middlesbrough goalkeeper Brad Jones on a three-month loan deal that expires on November 4th.

The 24-year-old Australian trained with the Owls on Friday morning and goes straight into the side to face Preston in the Championship opener on Saturday.

Sturrock believes Jones' Premiership and European experience will be invaluable to Wednesday at the start of the season but has urged supporters not to compare him to former loanee Scott Carson.

The manager said: "Brad is 6ft 5 and has good presence. He has important experience - last season he played 16 Premiership games and two European ties."

But he added: "I would ask fans to judge Brad by his own standards and not compare him to anyone else."
