Sam's The Man
Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of Charlton winger Lloyd Sam on a one-month loan.

The 22-year-old is not eligible for the Carling Cup but will be at Hillsborough to watch the game against Wrexham and is available for Sunday's Championship encounter with his hometown club, Leeds United.

Owls manager Paul Sturrock told swfc.co.uk that the pacy Sam's versatility was a key reason to bring him to Hillsborough.

The boss said: "Supporters might be surprised that he's not an out-and-out centre forward but he's a very offensive player who can play wide-left, wide-right or up front. I just feel that, with the two-week break, Deon Burton and Barry Corr will be back very soon.

"We need pace down the sides of the team, although I haven't ruled out playing him at centre-forward either."

"It is a great opportunity for me to go out and make my mark in the Championship," Sam told the official Charlton website.

"It is my long-term aim to get into the Charlton first team but I know I need to get more experience and this is the perfect chance for me to do that.

"Sheffield Wednesday is a big club but I'm confident I can go up there and do well. I've had a good pre-season and I feel fit so we'll see what happens."

Sam has joined the club until Saturday 23rd September and is eligible to play in the club's five league games up to and including that date.

Celtic have completed the £600,000 signing of Lee Naylor from Wolves, with Charlie Mulgrew moving in the opposite direction.

Defender Mulgrew, 20, agreed a three-year deal after passing a medical on Wednesday night.

He arrived at Molineux as a makeweight in the transfer.

Left-back Naylor, 27, has joined Celtic until the summer of 2009, with the club having the option of a further year.

It is the second time Hoops boss Gordon Strachan has plundered the Coca-Cola Championship outfit, after signing striker Kenny Miller in the summer.

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy was happy with his end of the deal following the arrival of Mulgrew.

'Charlie is a good footballer,' he said.

'He's over 6ft and is a left-sided player at either full-back or centre-back and as we've now lost Lee Naylor, he'll help cover that area.

'I'm looking forward to getting him into training and seeing what he can do.'

Celtic are also hoping to sign Dutch striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.

ARGYLE winger Bojan Djordjic has been placed on the transfer-list by Pilgrims' manager Ian Holloway.

The 24-year-old Serbian former Manchester United and Rangers midfielder was left out of the Argyle squad that was knocked out of the Carling Cup by League Two Walsall.

He will not be in the Pilgrims' party that travels to Stoke on Saturday, with Holloway preferring instead youngster Ryan Dickson, whose league experience amounts to just two starts.

"I've had a chat with him and he's been put on the transfer-list," confirmed Holloway.

"It's based on my observations since I've been here. I know what I want. If he wants to change things and consistently do what I want, I haven't got a problem with him.

"He should be getting crosses in the box, practising corners and free-kicks every day.

"I've spoken to him, and that's been between me and him. He'll have to earn the right to get back in or I'll be looking for someone else.

"I've got Dickson in the squad for the weekend. He's had a bad back, but I'm happy to go with that. From what I've seen, he gives me what I want - effort, workwise for the team. It's not all about talent; it's about your character and application.

"The boy knows what I've said and it's down to him. I will be looking and I will be listening and if he makes me change my mind and I take him off the transfer-list, great, but, at the moment, he's on it."

Coventry City has signed Scotland international striker Kevin Kyle for an undisclosed fee from Sunderland.

The 6ft 3in forward put pen to paper on a three-year deal today after passing a medical at the Ricoh Arena.

Kyle becomes Micky Adams' 12th signing of the summer and will go straight into the squad for Saturday's game away against Hull City.

The 25-year-old joined Sunderland as a trainee, making his debut against Everton in the 2002-03 campaign. Since then, he has made 107 appearances for the North-East side and finished joint top scorer at the end of the 2003-04 campaign with 16 goals.

He has nine caps for Scotland, scoring one goal.

Manager Micky Adams believes that Kyle will bring many qualities to the squad.

"Kevin provides an obvious aerial threat, as well as being very strong on the ball. He is a real handful for defenders to deal with as well as being a proven goalscorer at this level, which is very valuable.

"In addition to this, he's only 25 so he has age on his side. He has also experienced football on the international stage, which can only be of benefit."
