BLUES SIGN MCSHEFFREY
Birmingham City Football Club and principal sponsors Flybe are delighted to announce the signing of Gary McSheffrey from Coventry City on a four year deal for a substantial fee.

Blue boss Steve Bruce has been pursuing the 24-year-old striker for several months and has had three previous bids for the player turned down prior to today's acceptance.

The former England under 20 international has an abundance of pace and excellent technical ability and can play on either the left of midfield or as an outright striker.

He finished the 2005/06 season as top scorer for Micky Adams' side with 17 goals from the left flank.

McSheffrey is a product of City's Academy and has spent his entire career with his hometown club, except for loan spells at Luton Town and Stockport County.

Since making his City debut as a 16-year-old, McSheffrey has made a total of 162 appearances and scored 53 goals for the Sky Blues.

Saints have signed Reading defender Chris Makin on a two year contract.

The 33-year-old defender spent the last season with the Royals but was a bit part player in their promotion campaign, starting just 11 league games and six cup ties.

Prior to that he had built up a wealth of experience in the Championship and the English top-flight with over 400 senior appearances that included a spell under Saints boss George Burley at Ipswich.

Makin began has career at Oldham as a trainee in 1991 and following a loan spell at Wigan he moved on to Marseille in 1996 but only spent a year in France.

He returned to England with Sunderland at the start of the 1997 season for £500,000 and spent almost four years in the North East before Burley brought him to Ipswich for £1.4million.

He left Portman Road in the summer of August 2004 to sign for Leicester but spent only a year there before moving on again to Reading last summer.

A versatile full-back who can play on either flank he will bring some much needed cover to Burley's back-line - particularly at left-back with 17-year-old Gareth Bale currently the only recognised left-sided defender.

He has joined Saints on a free transfer.

George Burley said: ""With three centre-backs injured at the moment and Gareth Bale our only left-back we've been saying since the summer that we need to strengthen the squad at the back.

"Chris can play across the back four, he's a good experienced pro and will give us a bit of leadership on the pitch as well.

"I know Chris well from his time at Ipswich and he will give us that strength that we need."

Midfielder In For Medical
Wolves are hoping to sign Liverpool youngster, Darren Potter, on a season-long loan.

  The 21-year-old midfielder arrived at Molineux yesterday for a medical, which is expected to be completed later this week.

  "Darren is here and he's having his scans," says manager Mick McCarthy.

  "He is a talented player and we are hoping to wrap things up on his loan pretty soon.

  "I watched him last year when he was playing for Southampton and he impressed me.

  "He did excellently. He is a modern day centre midfielder, he is young and hungry and we are happy to see him here at Wolves."

  Potter, who has figured 17 times for Liverpool's first team, joined the Saints in the January transfer window and made 12 appearances for the Hampshire club. He has earned three caps for the Republic of Ireland under 21s.

Striker Offer Accepted
Wolves have had an offer for striker Jemal Johnson accepted by Blackburn Rovers.

  The 21-year-old will this afternoon have a medical and discuss personal terms with Molineux officials.

  He played in Tuesday's friendly against Northampton Town and obviously impressed watching manager Mick McCarthy.

  Jemal moved from America to Lancashire at the age of five and he was originally on the books of Manchester United before joining Blackburn's Academy.

  He made his debut for Rovers in an FA Cup tie at Cardiff in January 2005, making his full debut and scoring in the next round of the competition against Colchester United.

  Last season he made four appearances, all from the bench, for the Premier League side, and enjoyed loan spells with Preston North End and Darlington.

REDS SIGN ARSENAL KEEPER!!!
BARNSLEY Football Club are delighted to announce that rising Arsenal star Vito Mannone has today agreed a three-month loan deal at Oakwell.

Born in Desio, Italy, the 18-year-old goalkeeper joined The Gunners in the summer of 2005 for a fee of around £350,000 after impressing in his homeland with Atalanta.

A regular with Arsenal's U18s last season, Vito also staked his claim for a place in the reserves with seven appearances for the Premiership outfit's second string. He featured for Arsenal's first team during the summer of 2005 during their pre-season programme turning out against Barnet and during a two-game tour of Austria.

The 6'3" keeper has put pen-to-paper on his contract at Oakwell and the relevant documentation is being faxed to the Football Association, Football League and FA Premier League. Subject to the paperwork being completed in time, Vito is expected to be named in the squad for tomorrow's clash with Southampton.

LUPOLI JOINS RAMS
The Rams have sealed the loan signing of Arsenal striker Arturo Lupoli from Arsenal.

The 19-year-old Italian arrives at Pride Park on a season-long deal and could feature for Derby as early as tomorrow, when Billy Davies' side take on Norwich at Pride Park (3pm).

Lupoli has a phenomenal strike-rate in reserve football - and now has the chance to prove himself at senior level with Derby County.

He arrived at Arsenal in the summer of 2004 from Italian side Parma as a 17-year-old and made a rapid start to life in the second string.

His senior debut came in October that year, and in November he was off the goal-scoring mark with a double in a 3-1 League Cup win over Everton.

Lupoli ended his first season with 19 goals in the FA Premier Reserve League South and followed that up with 17 more in just 15 games in 2005/06 - after a foot injury ended his campaign early.

His only other senior goal for Arsenal came in November 2005, in a League Cup win over Reading, while his sole Premiership appearance came as a substitute at Blackburn in February this year.

He has one FA Cup start, as well as five starts and two substitute appearances in the League Cup, where all his three goals have come.

Managing director Mike Horton said: "It's been no secret that we have been tracking Arturo for some time.

"It's been a six-week vigil for us and, in recent days, other clubs have expressed an interest in him so we're delighted he chose Derby County to continue his progression."

Step forward for Simon
Simon Walton sees his loan move to Town from Premiership Charlton as an important step in his development as a player.

The 18-year-old has joined Blues on a month's deal just four weeks after signing a four year contract at the Valley following an initial £500,000 move from Leeds that could rise to a £1m.

"I suppose some people might be surprised that I have moved on loan to another club just a few weeks after signing for Charlton but I see it as a positive step," Simon told the Club website.

"I know what a big club Ipswich is having played at Portman Road a few times and I see the move as the next step in my development as a player.

"It was clear that I wasn't going to be in the starting line-up at Charlton early on because the manager has brought in some experienced players so he said it would be a good idea to go out on loan.

"Iain Dowie and the gaffer here have been talking regularly and Ipswich seemed a great club for me to join and get some regular first-team football. And in that time I hope to help Ipswich move up the table to where they want to be."

Prutton op blow
David Prutton looks likely to be out of action for three months after being told he will need an ankle operation.

The battling midfielder is still suffering problems from the injury he picked up in a 50-50 block tackle in the FA Cup win at Leicester at the end of January.
That ruled him out until the final two games of the campaign but the underlying injury has still not fully healed.

That reportedly scuppered a proposed move to Leeds recently and now Prutton will have surgery in a bid to resolve the problem.
Manager George Burley said: "David Prutton is going to have an operation next week which could put him out for three months.

"It is the same problem that David had last season and maybe it should have been operated on then.
"But at the time the specialist did not think he needed an operation.

"We took him to London two weeks ago and after the specialist looking at it, it was decided that the operation was needed.
"That is obviously a big blow for the boy and a big blow for everybody if he is out for that long."
