Bayern soften Owen stance
Bayern Munich have revealed that they would accept a bid for Owen Hargreaves in January if they had his replacement already lined up.
United and the player have openly admitted since the summer that they want the transfer to happen, but the Bundesliga club have until now stubbornly refused to allow the England international midfielder to leave.
Hargreaves has stated publicly on several occasions that he favours a move to Old Trafford and has reportedly on a number of occasions requested to be transferred. Despite previously refusing to entertain the idea, general manager Uli Hoeness has offered a glimmer of hope that business could be done in January.
"If ever we thought we had found a replacement for Owen, who cost less than we'd get for him, we might be prepared to think about it,” he has been quoted as saying.
"But we're not a bank, we're a football club. Our top priority is to strengthen the team so what use to me is another £30 million in the bank?”
If Bayern can find an alternative to Hargreaves in January then the move could be pushed through for the 25-year-old, who is still recovering from a broken leg as German football enters its winter break. But if no replacement can be found then the move is unlikely to happen until the summer.
"We face Real Madrid in the Champions League so we're not about to weaken our team. We want to do well in Europe and the Bundesliga and we need Hargreaves for that." |
