Barcelona To Sign Yaya Toure Today
Barcelona are expected to strike a 12m euro deal for the transfer of Ivorian international midfielder from Monaco.
The Catalan giants were offering 10 million, but Monaco were insistent on 12 as they must pay half of his transfer fee to Ukrainian side Metalurg Donetsk.
Dimitri Selluyk, Toure's representative, confirmed that a deal was almost done, and that barring a surprise, would be confirmed today itself.
"The two parties are very close to an agreement, and hopeful of closing the deal," he told Sport.
He will be in Barcelona today to speak with Txiki Begiristain, and formalise an agreement that has more or less been reached over the telephone.
"Barring a surprise, Toure will play for Barcelona next year," he said.
The player is currently in his homeland on vacation, awaiting confirmation, and is expected to reach Barcelona tonight.
He will complete a medical on Monday morning, before signing a four year contract worth two million euros a season, which could go up to three depending on performances and results.
With Thierry Henry also expected in Barcelona tonight, and due to be presented tomorrow, it is being suggested that the two will be presented to the press together.
There is some connection between them as well, as Henry himself is a former Monaco player. Also, the Frenchman has already played with Yaya's older brother Kolo at Arsenal.
Knee Surgery Forces Barca To Postpone Edmilson Exit
The first of them was to correct a horrific cruciate knee ligament injury picked up in October 2004, during a period when Barcelona also lost three other players to the same injury.
The second was to correct a lateral ligament injury last summer, just before the World Cup, that saw him ruled out for over two months.
This time, it is no injury, but simply following discomfort over the last few months, which has prevented him from playing at his best.
Club doctors confirmed that the player underwent an "arthroscopy on his right knee" on Thursday afternoon.
It was described as a "cleaning of the cartilage and the meniscus," as the player's knee had not been responding well to the operation last summer.
However, club doctor Ramon Cugat, who carried out this operation, insisted that the previous two operations had been successful, asserting that "some knees respond well, and some badly."
He predicted a "long" recovery process, which could keep him out of action for "four, five or six" months.
This poses a very significant problem in his departure from the club, as it will be very difficult for him to get clearance from another club's medical team. He was one of the players set to leave, but will now stay on until the winter, at least.
Cugat admitted that any potential transfer "would now depend on the doctors of the other club" but insisted that "if I was the one, I would clear him" after studying his case record.
Details Of Barcelona's Chivu Negotiations
Barcelona's cash plus player offer did not meet with the immediate approval of the Roma bosses, sources in Italy are revealing.
However, the differences are very minor, and both parties seem to be aware that an agreement is close, as has been apparent from comments coming from the Roma camp.
"Barcelona are a very serious club," Prade had said on Friday afternoon. "We have talked about Chivu. Concrete offers have not been made yet. Next week we will meet again."
The meeting will be for Barcelona to come in with an improved offer. By then, they will also have had time to understand whether players being offered would actually be willing to move to Rome.
Roma would ideally like a straight cash deal worth 18-20 million euros, or 12 million euros along with Giuly and Belletti, while Barca are currently offering 13m along with just one of Belletti, Sylvinho and Giuly.
The estimated difference is said to be worth less that 2 million euros, something Barcelona are in no mood to miss out over. |
