Atletico Agree 30m Fee For Forlan And Riquelme
Reports out of Madrid suggest that Atletico Madrid and Villarreal have struck a deal worth 30 million euros for the two South Americans.
zoom - galleria Diego Forlan had been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, but there seem to have been more developments between them and Villarreal of late, with Juan Roman Riquelme also being thrown into the deal.
The Vicente Calderon club will offer the Yellow Submarines 30 million euros for both the players.
The deal, however, depends on Atleti convincing the Argentine playmaker to join them.
It is certain that Riquelme will not be returning to Villarreal. However, there have been rumours of interests from Italy, so the Rojiblancos will have work to do.
Both players are currently at the Copa Amercia in Venezuela, and are likely to be just there for a while yet. However, the clubs have reached an agreement, and Javier Aguirre has also given his approval.
The deal also indicates that Fernando Torres is set to be sold sooner rather than later.
Club president Miguel Angel Gil Marin had claimed yesterday that Atleti could survive without him, dropping perhaps the biggest hint yet.
"Nobody is essential," he had said. "We are trying to build a team to compete and it is not about any one player and, good though he is, we want a squad that achieves its' ambitions.
"Atlético are creating a side that is not all about Torres."
