Moyes: Signings are difficult
David Moyes admits his efforts to strengthen his Everton squad have been hampered by the 'irresponsible spending' of rival Premier League clubs.
Liverpool, Manchester United, Portsmouth and Tottenham have already spent huge sums in the transfer market this summer, while Manchester City and West Ham United are also waving an open chequebook about.
To date, Moyes has had to content himself with the £4million signing of Phil Jagielka, having also been linked with the likes of Kieran Richardson, Alan Smith and David Nugent.
The Everton boss remains determined to bring in new faces at Goodison Park, particularly with European football on the agenda this season.
But he acknowledged the wild spending of other clubs has impacted upon his own quest to bring quality players to the blue half of Merseyside.
"I think there has been some irresponsible buying and spending by some clubs, and it makes it a bit more difficult if you've got less money to spend than that," Moyes told the club's official website.
"We'd like to add to the squad and I know the supporters are desperate to see new faces coming in, no more so than me, but things out there in the market are tight.
"But we are certainly doing everything we can to strengthen the squad and give ourselves a chance.
"We've done it that way for the past few years and we'll continue to do so." |
