Newcastle Sign 19 Year-Old Dutchman On One Month Loan
One thing that has been surprising with this transfer window is that Newcastle really seem to have done their homework, as the club have been linked with a number of decent players, and have already achieved three solid signings this month.
The news this morning is that Newcastle have now gone after young Chelsea defender Patrick van Aanholt, on loan for just one month.
The 19-year-old left-back began his career at PSV Eindhoven before moving to Stamford Bridge, and he joins Newcastle as cover for the injured Jose Enrique.
Left back Jose Enrique faces a few weeks out with his hamstring problem, and Van Aanholt is bring brought in to fill in for the Spaniard.
The Dutch Under-21 international will know our own Tim Krul, and was at Coventry for the first half of the season, and will presumably be available for Newcastle’s game against Leicester tomorrow.
Chris Hughton was very pleased with his short term acquisition:
“I certainly liked what I saw that night,”
“I’ve also heard a lot of good things about him and he is a player who is very highly thought of at Chelsea.”
“The move was, of course, a reaction to Jose Enrique’s injury but we’re very excited about having Patrick with us.”
“He will give us energy and it’s a good chance to have a look at him over the next month.”
Hey, it looks like we can now move quickly in this transfer market, and credit to the club for that.
The 5′9〃 Dutchman played 20 games for Coventry this season, so he has some experience in the Championship
But of course this is only possible if the homework has been done in advance, so it looks like our scouting team has been ready for the window – we’re quite pleased at what the club has managed so far this month.
Comments welcome.
Newcastle Sign Fitz Hall On Loan For Rest Of Season
Queens Park Rangers have today confirmed that Newcastle United have signed defender Fitz Hall on loan until the end of the season. Fitz Hall – on loan at Newcastle Sky Sports had reported yesterday that the 29-year-old was about to leave Loftus Road, and that has turned out to be true. Hall was a target for Newcastle manager Chris Hughton last summer, and he has brought the player in, presumably as back four cover at the club, for the rest of the season. Other clubs were interested in Hall, but Newcastle were in very quickly for the player, and wrapped up the deal, their 5th capture this January. Fitz comes in along with Danny Simpson (signed), Mike Williamson (signed), Wayne Routledge (signed) and one month loan signing 19 year-old Patrick van Aanholt from Chelsea, who is cover for the injured Jose Enrique. Not many fans expected this level of activity in January, we didn’t, and remember the club is still in with a chance to get Victor Moses from Crystal Palace, which would really be something. A win tomorrow at Leicester City, and the acquisition of James Vaughan from Everton and young Moses from Crystal Palace, and we’d have to get out those blood pressure pills, we’d be so excited. |
