Juanfran snubs Bolton for Ajax

Bolton Wanderers have missed out on Juanfran, after the Besiktas defender signed for Ajax.

Trotters boss Sam Allardyce had been trying to rescue the Spanish full back from his nightmare in Istanbul.

Juanfran had been unable to settle in Turkey and Allardyce revived a longstanding interest in taking the former Celta Vigo ace to The Reebok Stadium.

Allardyce was confident of wrapping up a deal for the 29-year-old but Juanfran has instead plumped for a move to the Amsterdam ArenA.

Ajax were offered the chance to sign the left back last week and they have now taken up that opportunity with relish.

The Dutch giants have been looking to bring in reinforcements in Juanfran's position following a serious injury to Maxwell.

The Brazilian defender is out for several months with a knee problem and Juanfran will spend the season in Holland with Ajax.
