Real Secure Cordoba Option?

According to Spanish daily Marca, Real Madrid may have secured themselves an option to sign Inter defender Ivan Cordoba.
Real have been keen on the Colombian for some time now, and it is reported that president Florentino Perez was successful in obtaining a purchase option during the recent negotiations over Santi Solari, Walter Samuel and Luis Figo.

Cordoba will not be arriving this summer as Real already have three non-EU players in Ronaldo, Julio Baptista and Robinho.

However, should Inter decide to sell the speedy centre-back, Real look like being first in line for his services.

Atletico And Newcastle Linked With Solano

Aston Villa winger Nolberto Solano may be a target for Atletico Madrid and Newcastle, according to the Peruvian media.
"A great club is interested in Solano. I cannot say the name of this club. This season is his last at Aston Villa and several clubs are interested, Newcastle even want him to return," one of his agents, Horacio Jáuregui, is quoted as saying.

Solano is thought to be part of Villa manager David O’Leary’s plans this season, so any move is not likely in the immediate future.

Solano in Spain talks

Nolberto Solano's agent has confirmed that his client is in talks with a club in Spain as the winger enters the final year of his Aston Villa contract.

The Peruvian international's agent, Horacio Jauregui, revealed that there has been considerable interest in Solano, including an enquiry from former club Newcastle.

Reports in Spain suggest that the unnamed club is Atletico Madrid whose coach Carlos Bianchi is a big admirer of the player.

Jauregui explained: "I have just come from Madrid and a big club is interested in Nolberto.

"I cannot say the name of the club because we are in formal talks. This will be his last season at Aston Villa and there are several interested clubs."

Solano, who can also operate at full back, joined Villa in January 2004 in a cut-price £1.5 million deal from Newcastle.

He has since become established as Villa's main creative force and the loss of such an influential player would come as a major blow to manager David O'Leary.

Espanyol may miss Saviola

Espanyol appear to have been muscled out of a loan move for Barcelona striker Javier Saviola by Spanish rivals Athletico Madrid and Real Zaragoza.

Espanyol were leading the race for the 23-year-old's signature after he requested to stay in the city and Barcelona president Joan Laporta promised to assist the move.

Argentine international Saviola earns €5.2million at Camp Nou, but Espanyol were only prepared to stump up half that figure and Barcelona refused to meet their demands.

Espanyol technical secretary Cristobal Parralo confirmed that talks had faltered and said: "Things are very complicated and we are already looking at other players.

"It is difficult because Barcelona have other offers which they are studying and appear to be higher than our offer.

"What exactly the other teams have offered or whether negotiations have taken place I do not know."

Laporta revealed that both Athletico Madrid and Real Zaragoza had posted their interest in Saviola - and that both have the financial clout to back their inquiry - but Saviola's wish to stay in Cataluyna may yet prove telling.
