Albert Riera is on the verge of completing his move to Espanyol.
The 23-year-old has been at Bordeaux for the past two seasons having moved in a near €5 million switch from Mallorca in the summer of 2003.
However, he is now poised to clinch a return to Spain and will become Espanyol's second capture of the summer, following the signing of Eduardo Costa from Marseille.
"It's very close," Riera revealed.
"I am very excited because I have hardly had the chance to enjoy the Spanish league because I left at a young age.
"Now I want to achieve important things with Espanyol."
Espanyol moved for Riera after missing out on the services of Mario Regueiro who opted to join Valencia.
He is likely to be a replacement for Oscar Serrano who is expected to quit the club and move to Racing Santander.
The Catalans are also close to finalising a deal for Argentine youngster Pablo Zabaleta - captain of the Argentina Under-20 team - and Numancia wideman Juanlu.
Zabaleta, a right-sided midfielder, currently plays for San Lorenzo in his homeland but looks likely to move to Spain in a €3 million transfer.
Meanwhile, Juanlu should join from relegated Numancia in a near €300,000 deal, although Malaga are also interested in his services. |
