Newcastle United look set to compete with Liverpool as the race to sign Nolberto Solano hots up ahead of Wednesday's transfer deadline.
Liverpool are keen to snap up the Peruvian winger, but Solano's former club Newcastle are believed to be rivalling The Reds.
Newcastle have already stolen a march on Liverpool this transfer market with the signing of Michael Owen, and the news that The Magpies are ready to once again rival Rafa Benitez's side is sure to worry supporters.
Solano has established himself as one of the most capable wingers in The Premiership since arriving from Argentine giants Boca Juniors.
The winger played over 200 times for Newcastle before sealing a 1.5 million move to Aston Villa, where he has played 52 times, scoring eight goals.
Villa are likely to want to recoup all of the money that they paid for the 30-year-old in January of 2004.

Newcastle have declined to comment on reports suggesting they want to re-sign Peruvian playmaker Nolberto Solano from Aston Villa.
Toon boss Graeme Souness is believed to want Solano to provide the ammunition for new signing Michael Owen from the right flank, having let wideman Laurent Robert leave to join Portsmouth this summer.
But any prospective deal with Villa is hanging in the balance as David O'Leary wants former Leeds winger James Milner to travel in the opposite direction - and the Magpies do not want to let him go.
