Nigerian international, Celestine Babayaro, may be on his way out of Newcastle United when the transfer window opens in January 2007.
According to the News of The World, Babayaro would be among four players that could demand a transfer request, as the club manager, Glenn Roeder, is set to splash cash in bringing more players to fortify their defence.
"Albert Luque, Emre, James Milner and Celestine Babayaro will all demand to leave Newcastle in January," the report in the News of The World stated.
However, Babayaro is said to feel that the plan by Roeder to recruit more defenders could make him surplus to requirement and could as well lead to his being put on the transfer list of players.
Since joining Newcastle United last season, Babayaro has struggled to maintain a first-team place due to recurring injuries.
In another development, his elder brother, Emmanuel Babayaro, was quoted last week on Brila FM saying that the England-based defender is willing to stage a return to the Super Eagles.
Emmanuel defended his younger brother by saying that there was no time when he (Celestine) got a call-up to the national team and refused to honour such invitation.
"Celestine has never said he was tired of playing for Nigeria, but players don't just come to the team, they must be invited. So, the question should be whether, Celestine was invited and he turned down the invitation. The last time he played for Nigeria was at the 2004 Nations Cup in Tunisia and since then, he has got another invitation.
"I can confirm that Celestine will never say no to Nigeria, but he must be invited first," he declared. |
