Brazilian media sources are suggesting Santos are closing in on the loan capture of Real Betis winger Denilson.

The tricky winger has struggled to hold down a regular starting berth at Betis and is said to be ready to move on in a bid to kick-start his career.

Santos, Cruzeiro and Sao Paulo are all believed to have made offers for the Samba star and reports are suggesting the former will win the race for his signature.

The player's representative Denis de Oliveira does not expect Betis to block Denilson's move to his homeland.

"I am convinced that the Spanish club will not cause any problems because president (Manuel Ruiz de) Lopera knows that Denilson is keen to return to Brazil," said de Oliveira.

Santos, meanwhile, are likely to lose defender Leao who has claimed he is on the cusp of a move to Portugal.

The full back refused to reveal the name of the club, but it is believed that Benfica have won the race for his signature

Espanyol have completed the signing of Albert Riera from Bordeaux.

The 23-year-old arrives at Espanyol for a fee of €3 million and has signed a four-year deal at the Spanish outfit.

The former Real Mallorca ace has been linked with a move to Espanyol all summer and they have finally clinched his signature.

Riera is the third new signing of the summer at Espanyol following the arrivals of Jofre and Eduardo Costa.

Meanwhile, Espanyol have released Marc Bertran and Claudiu Raducanu.

Espanyol have cancelled the contracts of the pair as they look to trim their squad and free up places for new signings.

Cúper Wants Several New Faces

Héctor Cúper has admitted that he needs to bring in several more players if Mallorca are going to have a successful season, but believes that signing Julio Cruz and Karagounis from Inter will be tough.
The Argentinian coach understands how close the Son Moix outfit came to relegation last season and is detmerned not to allow that to happen next term.

But to do so, Cúper thinks that the defence, the midfield and the forward line all need reinforcing before the season kicks off at the end of August.

"It would be good if we could bring players, every line needs strengthening and in some cases with two or more players," he said.

"Cruz and Karagounis will be very difficult though."

Murcia’s Francisco Maciel, Real Madrid’s Borja and Marseille full-back Salomon Olembe, who Cuper describes as ’a mini Roberto Carlos, are all in Mallorca’s sights.

"I have the added stimulus of being able to start the season with the team this year," Cúper continued. "We want a stronger teams that will look for safety as soon as possible and then see what else we can achieve."

Espanyol consider Saviola

Miguel Angel Lotina has revealed that Espanyol have been offered the chance to take troubled Barcelona striker Javier Saviola on loan next season.

The Parakeets' boss is keen to strengthen his squad as they prepare for the Uefa Cup and Lotina believes that Saviola would be a great addition to the team.

The Argentina international has been told by Barca that he is behind Samuel Eto'o, Henrik Larsson and Maxi Lopez in the pecking order at Camp Nou and that he would be better off looking for a new club next season.

Reports in Catalunya suggest that the Blaugrana expect a deal to be struck with an unnamed club this week and Espanyol could be his next destination.

"Of course, I am very interested," said Lotina.

"I was called a few weeks ago and they asked if I was interested in Saviola and I said that I was, but after that, there has been nothing further.

"We do need another striker before the season starts, but we still have Raul Tamudo, Dani and Jonathan."

Saviola is disgruntled after being told by Barca president, Joan Laporta, that he would be able to return to the club if he spent last season on loan at another side.

But after spending the year with Monaco, coach Frank Rijkaard phoned him to say that he is no longer in his plans and that he should begin to look for a new team.

Deportivo La Coruna, Real Betis and Sevilla have all made offers for Saviola, while Middlesbrough are believed to have failed with a bid for the attacker.
