Villarreal have clinched a deal to take Argentine youngster Leo Diaz on loan for the next two seasons.

The 19-year-old midfield starlet came to the attention of the Primera outfit after playing in a youth tournament in Spain.

It is expected he will initially link up with the club's reserve team, but Villarreal boss Manuel Pellegrini is hopeful he will push for first-team action during his initial two-year spell - after which time the club have an option to complete a permanent transfer.

Diaz is rated as one of the best young talents in his native Argentina and Villarreal believe they have pulled off an astute transfer in taking yet another South American to El Madrigal.

"This transfer could help us in the future with the Argentine market," a Villarreal spokesperson stated.

Real Betis have added the double capture of Nano and Juanlu to their recent signing of Levante star Alberto Rivera.

Rivera, 27, joined following Levante's relegation last season in a €3.4 million deal.

He is now followed into the club by two new additions as Betis look to strengthen for their UEFA Champions League campaign next season.

Nano, a central defender, joins from Getafe and admitted he was delighted to be joining the current Copa del Rey holders.

"It's a very important step for me," he stated.

"Through hard work I will try to pay back the confidence the club have showed in me."

Left-sided midfielder Juanlu, who was linked with Espanyol some weeks ago, has completed his switch from Numancia after an impressive debut season in La Primera last time around.

It means Betis have now added four new faces to their squad having landed Valencia star Xisco earlier in the summer.

Cadiz continue to strengthen

Cadiz have continued their preparations for their forthcoming Primera campaign by signing former Espanyol defender Marc Bertran.

The 23-year-old was released by Espanyol at the end of last season, but has now earned himself another shot at the Spanish top-flight.

Bertran has penned a two-year deal with the Andalusian outfit and joins a host of other new faces at the club.

Cadiz have recently signed Uruguayan starlet Fabio Estoyanoff on a season-long loan from Valencia and his compatriot Alexander Medina from Nacional, Argentine goalkeeper Oscar Limia, Portuguese defender Mario Silva from Recreativo de Huelva and also Ivan Ania and Miguel Garcia.

However, their transfer activity is unlikely to stop there as boss Victor Esparrago wants to further bolster his squad before the season kicks off.

Celta Vigo have clinched the signing of Diego Placente from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Argentinian international rejected the offer of a new deal at the BayArena in a bid to secure a move away from Germany.

Serie A side Roma had been interested, but Celta have won the race after the 28-year-old signed a three-year deal with the Spanish side.

Fernando Vazquez's outfit have just returned to the Primera Liga and the coach wants some top quality recruits to ensure they stay in the top flight.

Placente will pocket around €1.2 million a year on his three-year deal at Celta.

Arsenal's Pires on Real Madrid shopping list

Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires is being considered by Real Madrid.

Real Madrid general manager Arrigo Sacchi is considering the Frenchman as a replacement for Santiago Solari, who signed for Inter Milan earlier this month.

Real have no experienced left-sided midfielder to fill the breach left by Solari and Sacchi has Pires high on a shortlist of possible replacements.

Pires almost signed for Valencia last month and has expressed an ambition to play in Spain before he retires.
