Marseille have confirmed that they are set to sign Bobo Balde from Celtic on Monday.
The Guinean international looks to be out of favour under new Bhoys chief Gordon Strachan and he is now letting him leave Parkhead.
Balde has been with Celtic since 2001 when Martin O'Neill snapped him up from Toulouse.
The giant central defender is a cult figure and he snubbed summer moves to Middlesbrough and Birmingham to stay with Celtic, but that was before O'Neill quit as coach.
Marseille have moved for Balde ahead of Serbian striker Danijel Ljuboja after deciding that they need their defence bolstering rather than their forward line.
l'OM sporting director Jose Anigo confirmed the deal was almost done.
"Sure with Blade, that should be done," said Anigo.
"I have seldom seen somebody who has expressed such a desire to join us.
"He knows the club and is ready to leave a strong contract in Glasgow to come to Marseille.
"He has a strong personality and has all the essential qualities of a good defender."
Lazio chief Claudio Lotito has dismissed suggestions that he will sell goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi to city rivals Roma.
The veteran, who started his career with the Giallorossi, has been linked with a switch in order to help young Roma No 1 Gianluca Curci fully mature.
But Lotito has publicly ruled out a move even though they also have Matteo Sereni on the Biancocelesti books.
"Angelo Peruzzi is untouchable, it is as simple as that," Lotito told the GRT radio station on Tuesday.
"I can categorically deny any sort of negotiations with the Giallorossi for Peruzzi.
"I want these destabilising voices to end once and for all, especially because our goalkeeper is not for sale.
"It has also been made clear to me that Angelo wants to stay here in order to end his career with us, before we offer him the chance to become a goalkeeping Coach."
In other transfer whispers, Traianos Dellas is reportedly ready to join Lazio from city rivals Roma.
The Greek stopper is now a free agent after his contract at the Stadio Olimpico expired in the summer.

Manchester United are set to capture Brazilian sensation Cicinho after the defender flew into the country for talks last night. The 25-year-old right-back was the discovery of Brazil's Confederations Cup-winning side in June. Both AC Milan and Juventus had been tracking the South American, who has a release clause of just under £8million in his contract at Sao Paulo. But last night it appeared the defender was heading towards Old Trafford after he jetted into Manchester on a private plane for talks with United. Signing the full-back would be a huge coup for boss Sir Alex Ferguson as he looks to haul United back into championship contention after they finished 18 points behind Chelsea last term. It would also be proof that the Glazer family is willing to fund Fergie heavily in the transfer market. Cicinho, full name Cicero Joao De Cezare, had been earmarked by Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Parreira to take over from ageing skipper Cafu next summer and Milan and Juventus were convinced they were in a two-way fight for his services. Cicinho flew to Italy last weekend seeking to find proof that his grandfather was Italian, meaning he would qualify automatically for a European Union passport. That search is believed to have been successful, meaning that he will be able to sign for any club without the need for a work permit. Milan and Juve believe they have been outfoxed by United, who are willing to offer more cash and a four-year deal to get their man. Talks are expected to continue today and United are hopeful he could become their third major signing of the summer after the arrivals of Edwin Van der Sar and Korean Park Ji-Sung. Cicinho's arrival will put a question mark over Gary Neville's automatic place in the United team, although the England right-back can also fill in at the heart of the back-line.

Stuttgart have completed the signing of Al-Ittihad midfielder Mario Carevic.
The 23-year-old put pen to paper on a three-year deal at the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion on Wednesday after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.
Stuttgart's sporting director, Herbert Bliem, confirmed: "They were difficult negotiations with Al-Ittihad.
"However Mario is a very skillful midfielder who will open up additional tactical possiblities for the team."
Stuttgart head coach, Giovanni Trappatoni, has earmarked the former Croatian U-21 international as the player to fill the creative void left by Alexander Hleb's move to Arsenal.
