Bamogo opts for Nantes

West Ham target Habib Bamogo has joined Nantes on a season-long loan from Marseille.

The former French youth international had been wanted by The Hammers, along with Nantes, for the 2005/06 season.

Bamogo initially rejected the notion of a move to either Upton Park or Nantes but has now confirmed his U-turn.

He was initially believed to be reticent about Nantes having the option of a permanent deal but the 23-year-old has accepted a switch to Les Canaris.

"With my entourage we listened to the Nantes officials and we thought about it," said Bamogo.

"I didn't hesitate about the seriousness of the club which is very famous in Le Championnat.

"I just asked myself about the immediate aims of FCNA.

"I asked them to let me think about it until Wednesday but I told them I have accepted their proposition."

Bamogo only joined Marseille last summer but the striker mustered just five goals and was not considered an integral member of the squad for this season.

Meanwhile, Nantes and Marseille are rivals for Brazilian striker Fred, although CSKA Moscow are favourites to sign the Cruzeiro ace, who has also been linked with Chelsea.

Chievo Hungary for Lisztes

Italian side Chievo have taken midfielder Krisztian Lisztes on trial as they look to bolster their squad for the forthcoming campaign.

The Hungarian international will travel to the Serie A side's summer camp on Tuesday in a bid to impress manager Giuseppe Pillon and earn a permanent contract.

The Flying Donkeys have identified midfield as a priority for strengthening and Lisztes, who is a free agent after his release from Werder Bremen, would fit the bill.

Pillon will use the remainder of this week to assess the 29-year-old, while Lisztes will also undergo a preliminary medical.

Chievo will hope that Lisztes can add a creative element to a side that struggled for goals last season and finished only one point clear of the relegation zone in Serie A.

Lazio move for Pole

Italian side Lazio are set to agree a fee to sign Polish midfielder Kamil Kosowski.

Kosowski spent last season on loan at German side Kaiserslautern, but is owned by Polish club Wisla Kracow.

The Polish international is considered a good potential acquisition by Lazio officials, who will make their final decision on whether to sign Kosowski after their Intertoto Cup fourth round second leg match against Marseille.

Biancocelesti will be forced into a quick decision due to the rival interest of Panathinaikos, who are believed to be ready to offer €2 million for the 28-year-old.

Lazio are considering an initial one-year loan move for Kosowski, with the option to make the deal permanent next summer.

Wisla have renewed the player's loan to Kaiserslautern, but he would be allowed to move to Italy should Lazio agree on a deal.

Cologne the latest stop for Alpay


      BERLIN, Aug 1 (Reuters) - Newly promoted Bundesliga side Cologne have
signed fiery Turkish defender Alpay Ozalan on a one-year contract, the
German second division champions said on Monday.
      The former Turkey international, 32, has 86 international caps and was
instrumental in Turkey's passage to the World Cup semi-finals in 2002.


      However, Alpay has courted controversy in recent years and has been
unable to keep his volatile temper in check.

      He was fired by Japan's Urawa Reds at the end of June after picking up
three red cards in seven matches, with six months remaining on his contract.

      Two years ago, he clashed with David Beckham in a Euro 2004 qualifier,
taunting the English captain over a missed penalty.

      Alpay stuck a finger in Beckham's face as the players walked off at
halftime, although he later claimed Beckham had spat on his shirt.

      The incident brought an abrupt halt to his spell at English premier
league side Aston Villa.

      Germany's Bundesliga kicks off on Friday. Cologne host near neighbours
Mainz 05 the following day.

City keen on Corradi

Bernardo Corradi's agent has confirmed Manchester City are looking to sign the Valencia striker on loan for next season.

The Italy international only joined Valencia last summer from Lazio, but endured a frustrating spell in Spain and is now looking to move on.

Corradi is believed to favour a return to his native Italy, but City boss Stuart Pearce is looking to persuade the powerful striker of the merits of spending the season at Eastlands.

"Manchester City? Yes, they are interested," the player's agent Moreno Roggi told skysports.com when questioned on his client's future. "But the player prefers coming back to Italy."

Roggi has confirmed Corradi is working on his fitness in Spain, but expects a deal to be wrapped up imminently.

"The player is training with Valencia, but we are looking to find a solution soon," stated Roggi.

Corradi has many admirers in Serie A and is believed to be Parma's favoured replacement for new Milan signing Alberto Gilardino, while Sampdoria have also been credited with an interest.

Roggi confirmed the interest from Parma, but played down the possibility of Corradi signing for Samp.

"With Sampdoria there is nothing," he added. "Whilst as for Parma's hypothesis we are considering this possibility."

PSV still keen on Kalou

PSV Eindhoven are refusing to give up their pursuit of Feyenoord striker Salomon Kalou.

The Dutch giants have already seen three bids for the Ivory Coast international rebuked but are now poised to go in with a fresh offer.

Kalou has intimated a desire to make the switch and PSV coach Guus Hiddink has confirmed his admiration for the player.

''Of course we want to sit around the table soon,'' said Hiddink.

''And as far as we are concerned Feyenoord can also come out of this deal well.

''The offer that we have done now is very reasonable and there can be negotiations about the limiting conditions.

''We have done an offer, but Feyenoord say that there is no room for talks. We are open.''

Despite Hiddink's confidence, his Feyenoord counterpart, Erwin Koeman, refutes the suggestion that PSV will eventually land their man.

''He definitively stays at Feyenoord,'' stated Koeman in AD Sportwereld.

''Believe me, Salomon stays, that has been assured to us by the board and that is not going to change.''

Franca heads for Japan

Unsettled Brazilian striker Franca has decided to leave Bayer Leverkusen and will continue his career in Japan after agreeing a transfer to Kashiwa Reysol.

The former Brazilian international joined Leverkusen for a club record fee of €8 million in 2002, but never really settled at the BayArena and made no secret of his desire to continue his career elsewhere, despite having a contract that runs until 2007.

"We’ve got confirmation from Japan and the club will pay us more than €2.5 million, that’s good business for us," managing director Wolfgang Holzhauser told local paper Koelner Stadtanzeiger.

"Franca lives his life in extremes and he was extremely unhappy here."

Leverkusen were initially reluctant to off-load the talented, but ill-disciplined forward and summer moves to Roma and Atletico Madrid failed to materialise, but Bayer coach Klaus Augenthaler finally lost patience with the controversial player after Franca missed a training session earlier this week, claiming he could not train with a full stomach.

Augenthaler fined the player €5,000 for the incident, but ultimately gave the green light for the transfer to Japan.

Bordeaux sign Brazilian

Bordeaux have signed Brazilian central defender Henrique from Flamengo.

The 22-year-old (pictured) has signed a five-year deal at Stade Chaban-Delmas and will likely fill the void made by the departure of Mihalis Kapsis to Olympiakos.

The South American passed a medical with the Ligue 1 club on Wednesday, though details of his transfer move across the Atlantic were not disclosed.

Henrique should be available for the club's second league match of the season at home to promoted Nancy.

Rangers are interested in signing Dinamo Zagreb defender Bostjan Cesar.

The highly-rated stopper has emerged as a possible alternative if Monaco's Julien Rodriguez is not snapped up by the SPL champions.

Reports north of the border claim the Ibrox outfit are bidding to clinch the capture of the Monaco man on Thursday but there are doubts that the transfer can be sealed before the first UEFA Champions League deadline.

Cesar scored the winning goal for Slovenia in their recent World Cup qualifier with Italy.

It is understood that The Gers noted his ability in a pre-season friendly game in Canada between the two clubs.

"After the game, I talked with people from the club," revealed the 23-year-old.

"They told me that they have already watched me before and that they think I'm a very interesting player.

"But that's all.

"I don't know if my club has received any formal offer from The Gers but I would sure be happy to play for such a big club."

Coco set for Toon talks

Italian international Francesco Coco is in talks with Newcastle about a move to Tyneside.

Coco arrives in England on Thursday to discuss a transfer to St James' Park.

The 28-year-old is surplus to requirements at Internazionale and possible moves to Everton, Ajax and Olympiakos have all failed to materialise.

Now Coco is looking to tie up a switch to Newcastle after Inter gave him permission to talk with The Magpies.

"Francesco Coco is flying into Newcastle from Italy today for talks," confirmed Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd

Manager Graeme Souness wants to bolster his left-sided options and Coco's possible arrival is a likely sign that he is not entirely happy with either Celestine Babayaro or Robbie Elliott.

Babayaro arrived in January from Chelsea and was a replacement for Olivier Bernard, but the Nigerian has failed to live up to his billing.

Elliott is only ever regarded as a squad player, but Aaron Hughes's departure earlier in the summer meant he was pushed up the pecking order.

Monaco have confirmed that they've sold defender Julien Rodriguez to Scottish champions Rangers.
The 27-year-old, who captained the French club last season, will sign a four-year contract and cost Rangers just £1m.

The player will undergo a medical in Glasgow later today before sealing his move North.
