The 27-year-old has been looking to leave his current club Trabzonspor throughout the summer and Wigan hope to win the chase for his services.

Trabzonspor have previously been reluctant to sell the prolific hot shot, who scored 30 goals in the Turkish league last season.

But with Trabzonspor failing to reach the UEFA Champions League group phase, they may be forced to part with Tekke before the close of the transfer window.

Latics boss Paul Jewell has missed out on the hit-man twice in the past but is pressing ahead with a third attempt to take Tekke to The JJB Stadium.

"Tekke is a player we are interested in," said Jewell.

"We have tried to get him a couple of times before and he is one we are pursuing again at the moment."

Jewell is desperate to bring in a new forward before the end of the month after selling Nathan Ellington to West Brom, and missing out on Dean Ashton and Robert Earnshaw.

But to avoid further frustration in the transfer market, Jewell will have to fend off interest from clubs across the continent to bring Tekke to The Premiership.

Deportivo La Coruna, Valencia, Stuttgart and Hertha Berlin have all been interested in Tekke over the summer and may rival Wigan for his signature.

Newcastle have agreed a club record transfer fee with Real Madrid for Michael Owen. The club's current record fee stands at the £15m paid for Alan Shearer in 1996. Auxerre bag Berson

Aston Villa midfielder Mathieu Berson has joined Auxerre on loan.

Berson's future at Aston Villa has been the subject of intense speculation all summer with the Frenchman unhappy at Villa Park.

The Frenchman has endured a frustrating time at Villa since his switch from Nantes last summer, making just 13 appearances last term.

Berson has previously expressed his unhappiness with his lack of action and has been seeking a move for regular first-team football.

Auxerre have moved to bring Berson back to Ligue 1 after losing out to Sunderland for Christian Bassila.

Berson was delighted to make the move to Stade Abbe Deschamps

"Auxerre proved themselves very convincing," said Berson.

"I wanted to come back to France. They did everything they could to set up a deal with Aston Villa. I'm delighted."

Auxerre have also signed Kristian Vadocz from Hungarian side Honved.

Argentinian striker Facundo Sava has left Fulham to join Spanish side Lorca Deportiva.

Lorca secured promotion into the second division of Spanish football for the coming season and are busy bolstering their squad for the campaign.

South American marksman Sava was on loan at Celta Vigo last season and helped the club to promotion to the Primera Liga with three goals in 26 games.

Sava had one year left on his Fulham contract but has now left permanently to join the Spanish side after completing a medical.

The 31-year-old made 26 league appearances for The Cottagers, scoring six goals, but was not in Chris Coleman's plans.

"Fulham Football Club can confirm that striker Facundo Sava has joined Spanish outfit Lorca Deportiva," read a statement on the club's website.

"We would like to thank Facundo for his services and wish him and his family all the best for the future."
