韋斯咸:

Hapoel Tel Aviv's Ghana defender John Pantsil has agreed terms with an English Premier League side and is set to sign a five-year contract with the London club.

Pantsil will reportedly earn 11,000 pounds sterling a week with West Ham, which will pay Hapoel 750,000 euros for the defender. Hapoel has said it is not prepared to loan out the player.

Pantsil will join the Hammers squad on their preseason tour of Sweden and will sign with the club next week when its general manager, Paul Aldridge, returns from vacation.

West Ham was left without a right-back after Lionel Scaloni's loan deal from Deportivo La Coruna expired, and West Ham manager Alan Pardew then missed out on signing England full-back Luke Young from Charlton.

Pantsil, who played in all of Ghana's three World Cup matches in Germany this summer, was recommended to Pardew by West Ham's Israel international midfielder Yossi Benayoun. Pantsil courted controversy at the World Cup by brandishing an Israeli flag as he celebrated Ghana's goals in their 2-0 win over the Czech Republic.

The Ghanaian Football Association issued an apology after the incident, insisting neither they nor Pantsil was taking sides in the Middle East conflict.

Meanwhile, Hapoel Tel Aviv continues to look in poor form ahead of the coming season. Yesterday it was held to a 1-1 draw by third division Bnei Lod.

Felix Avuka watched yesterday's game from the stands. Avuka has offers from Nir Klinger's Paralimni in Cyprus and from a second division side in Belgium and will not be returning to Hapoel.

Kuyt flies in for Reds move?

Liverpool are on the verge of completing the signing of Feyenoord's Holland international striker Dirk Kuyt.

Boss Rafa Benitez will finally get his man in the next 48 hours, according to the Daily Mail, after bombarding the Dutch club with a number of offers, including part-exchange deals involving Jerzy Dudek and Jan Kromkamp.

Kuyt was due back for pre-season training at Feyenoord on Monday but the club have given him seven days off to sort out his future.

Benitez had been worried that the £13.75 million asking price would scupper the deal but Liverpool are now investigating claims that the player has a £10.3 million release clause in his contract.

Kuyt scored 22 goals in 33 league games last season but now wants to play in England.

LONDON (AFP) - English Premiership side Portsmouth are reportedly on the verge of signing Portuguese midfielder Manuel Fernandes for a club record 10 million pounds.

The 21-year-old Benfica player is expected to have a medical on Thursday before discussing personal terms, the BBC claimed.

If Fernandes signs the deal would smash Portsmouth's previous record of the four million pounds paid for Zimbabwe striker Benjamin Mwaruwari in January.

Earlier Wednesday, French striker Nicolas Anelka claimed he has been offered the chance to join Portsmouth.

Fenerbahce star Anelka, is keen to leave the Turkish side and he claimed Portsmouth had made an offer of around 12 million euros.

The feverish transfer speculation at Fratton Park coincided with the announcement that multi-millionaire businessman Alexandre Gaydamark had completed his takeover of the club.

Gaydamark has bought chairman Milan Mandaric's entire share in the club and assumed control of the Fratton Park outfit.

The son of a Russian billionaire became joint-owner in January when he purchased a 50 percent stake in the club from Serbian tycoon Mandaric.
