BARRY Hayles has been unveiled as Argyle's newest recruit at a press conference held at the team hotel in Austria.

The former Fulham and Millwall striker joined up with his new team-mates on their pre-season in time to watch the Pilgrims batter Austrian FC Gratkorn 5-1 in a friendly match at the Rudersdorf Stadium.

Hayles is new manager Ian Holloway's second acquisition of the summer, following the £200,000 signing of Sylvan Ebanks-Blake last week.

Wolves have named Mick McCarthy as their new manager.

McCarthy replaces Glenn Hoddle at Molineux after the former England boss stepped down from the role earlier this month.

The former Republic of Ireland chief has been out of work since leaving Sunderland in March.

McCarthy is looking forward to the prospect of managing Wolves and is ready for the challenge ahead.

"I'm delighted to be joining Wolves," McCarthy told the club's official website.

"There's a big job to do at Molineux and I'm relishing the challenge.

"I can't wait to get down to work. With just two weeks to go before the start of the season there's lots to be done.

"It's going to be a busy but exciting time."

REDS boss Andy Ritchie has today been linked with a move for Southampton striker Kenwyne Jones, according to reports.

Today's Barnsley Chronicle claims:Reports on the South Coast yesterday linked the Reds with a £250,000 swoop for Southampton striker Kenwyne Jones.

The Trinidad and Tobago international joined Southampton in 2004. He enjoyed a spectacular loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday in 2004/2005, netting seven goals in seven first team games at Hillsborough before returning to Saints.

The 21-year-old has bagged five goals in 41 first team games for Southampton and spend three months on loan at Stoke City in 2005, hitting the back of the net three times in his 13 appearances.

Jones was part of the Trinidad and Tobago squad at the World Cup and featured in the Group B games against England and Paraguay. He has won 28 international caps, scoring two goals.

Overview-
In the second semi-final of the Whitecaps Nations Cup at Swangard Stadium, Cardiff City FC overpowered the China U-20 National Team 5-0.

Cardiff will now play the Whitecaps in Sunday's final. Cardiff's big summer signing, striker Michael Chopra, paced the attack scoring twice within the first 20 minutes.

The Chinese side had their chances but were physically outmatched by Cardiff City. China will now play India in the Third Place Game.

Cardiff had 20 shots to China's 5, while the Bluebirds goalkeeper Mark Howard didn't have to make a save.

The Whitecaps Nations Cup concludes Sunday at Swangard Stadium with a doubleheader. India against China kicks off at 4:00 p.m. followed by the Whitecaps against Cardiff in the final at 7:00 p.m.

Derby County have completed the signing of Luton Town striker Steve Howard for a fee of £1m.

Howard, 30, has moved to Pride Park on a three-year contract after over five years with the Hatters, during which time he scored more than 100 goals.

The Durham-born front-man is Billy Davies's first signing since taking over as Rams boss in June and he becomes the club's most expensive incoming transfer since the capture of Francois Grenet in November 2001.

Howard, who stands at six feet three inches and weighs over 14 stone, began his career with Northern League side Tow Law Town in 1994 before moving to Hartlepool a year later.

While with Hartlepool he scored 32 goals in 164 league and cup games, and was snapped up by Northampton Town in February 1999 for a fee of £120,000.

He was a popular player with the Cobblers and spent just over two years with them until his move to Luton in March 2001 for £50,000.

Howard has been a firm favourite with the Hatters faithful and has averaged almost a goal every two games in their colours.

He was the leading scorer in each of his full seasons with the club, totalling 103 goals in 228 games.

In 2005/06 he netted 14 times in the Coca-Cola Championship, including the winner against Derby at Kenilworth Road in March, and added one more goal in the FA Cup.

His overall career record stands at 140 league goals in 396 starts, with 47 appearances as a substitute, and a further 13 goals in 44 games in other competitions.

With the opening game of the 2006/07 campaign little more than a fortnight away, the official Ipswich Town squad numbers have been released.

Shane Supple has been handed the number one shirt for next season, while the manager's famous number seven will now be worn by teenage midfielder Owen Garvan.

The boss himself is registered as number 29, although he is hoping that particular shirt won't be seen on first-team duty.

Sporting a number of their own for the first time are Sammy Moore (30), Michael Synnott (31), James Krause (35) and Liam Trotter (36), while Town's longest-serving player, Richard Naylor, goes into his testimonial season with the number six on his back.

Luton Town Football Club are pleased to announce our second signing of the summer, capturing left-back Lewis Emanuel on a free transfer from League One side Bradford City.

Emanuel today penned a two-year deal at Kenilworth Road, after impressing the Manager and coaching staff since he arrived as a trialist earlier this month.

The 22-year-old Bradford-born defender had previously played his entire career for his hometown club, putting in over 100 appearances for the Bantams since his debut in the 2001/02 season.

Emanuel has also played on the left side of midfield, and comes with a reputation of a player who likes to get forward and get crosses in.

After a string of impressive performances in the Hatters' pre-season friendlies, Emanuel looks an exciting prospect and a great addition to the squad.

Emanuel will wear the number 16 shirt, which was recently vacated when Enoch Showunmi moved to Bristol City.
