Leeds United have agreed a £700,000 fee with Luton Town for midfield dynamo Kevin Nicholls.

The 27-year-old has attracted interest from a host of Championship clubs, including Stoke City and Crystal Palace, and is now set to head to Leeds to talk personal terms and undergo a medical.

The former Charlton trainee is a long-time target for United manager Kevin Blackwell and the player is expected to complete his move north before the end of the week.

The arrival of Nicholls will follow hot on the heels of the capture of fellow midfielder Dave LIvermore, from Millwall for £250,000.

Nicholls, born in Newham, made almost 200 appearances for Luton, scoring 33 goals. His previous clubs include Wigan, Brighton (loan) and Charlton.

The midfielder was a key member of the Luton side which won back-to-back promotions to clinch a place in the Championship in 2005.

Last season he scored six goals in 35 appearances including one in the epic 5-3 FA Cup defeat at the hands of LIverpool.

SQUAD ANNOUNCED
Leeds United have now registered their squad numbers with the Football League for the new season.

Summer signing Dave Livermore, a £250,000 buy from Millwall, will wear the number four shirt while fellow new recruit Seb Carole takes on the much-vaunted number 17 jersey.

There's been no other re-shuffling, although young defender Ben Parker will wear the number 30 shirt.

REDS boss Andy Ritchie has moved to distance himself from reports claiming an imminent move for Sheffield United striker Geoff Horsfield.

Speaking exclusively to www.barnsleyfc.co.uk following training this afternoon, Andy said: "Of course Geoff is the kind of quality player we would be interested in but we have not even made an enquiry.

"We will have to wait and see but we are still definitely in the market for a new striker before the season starts".

Owls boss Paul Sturrock has admitted he is close to calling a halt to his chase of Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson - but he has not given up hope yet.

Wednesday want to re-sign on loan the England World Cup keeper who was a major success at Hillsborough at the end of last season but, with only 12 days until the start of the Championship campaign, Sturrock could now be forced to look elsewhere.

He explained: "It's not looking as if we're going to get Scott but until I get a certain 'No' I'm going to keep going down that road. Circumstances are going against us but there's still an opportunity."

Sturrock revealed that Wednesday's prolonged chase of the 20-year-old has seen them miss out on other potential goalkeeping targets who he would have turned to had he ended the Carson chase earlier:

"Probably I've waited longer than I should," he said. "We've lost a couple because of the wait. Plan A has always been Scott. Plan B has been scuppered because of waiting on Scott. And now we're on Plan C."

Whether it is to be Carson or somebody else, the boss now faces a race against time to have a new face in by the time the Owls visit Preston on August 5th. However, Sturrock believes he has followed the right course of action even if the race for Carson is lost:

"We'll be panicky about it," he admitted. "But I think Sheffield Wednesday fans would have wanted their manager to wait as long as he could. If there was one name the fans wanted at the football club it was Scott Carson so I felt it was important to give him every opportunity. We're going to have to make sure we've got other irons in the fire."

HULSE SET FOR EXIT

Leeds United have agreed a deal with Sheffield United for striker Rob Hulse.

The Blades will pay an initial fee of £2.2m for the marksman, but add-ons could see the price rise to £3m.

The 26-year-old, who scored 14 goals last term, cost United £1.1m when he joined from West Brom last summer.

Rob, who started his career with hometown club Crewe before joining West Brom, played 51 games for Leeds scoring 20 goals.

The striker hasn't featured in either of United's two pre-season friendlies on English soil.

His last appearance for the club was against Norwegian outfit Sandnes last week.

列斯本身都有 Healy, Robbie Blake, Cresswel 等前鋒, 仲有d新仔如 Ian Moore 等上位, 所以都有放走 Hulse 嘅空間.
