Wigan Athletic will send a representative to Valerenga's trip to Brugge in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers on Wednesday.

Steffen Iversen could be a target for Paul Jewell but they have also been watching a several of Valerenga's defenders as Jewell eyes a beat-the-deadline swoop.

Norwich City's Dean Ashton and Trabzonspor ace Fatih Tekke are also options for the Premiership new boys, who are keen to splash the cash after selling Nathan Ellington to West Brom.

Ashton's agent Darren Bossons has explained that The Canaries want to keep their leading scorer despite reported interest from Wigan and Manchester City.

"Norwich have indicated to us that they want to keep Dean," said Bossons.

"Obviously, there is a lot of pressure at the moment but whether Norwich are feeling that pressure, I don't know."

Jewell has plenty of irons in the fire and is expected to be adding to his squad before next Wednesday's deadline.

Wigan 'fail in move for Windass'

Wigan have failed in a shock £450,000 bid for 36-year-old Bradford striker Dean Windass, according to reports.

Latics manager Paul Jewell, who worked with Windass when he was Bantams boss, is on the lookout for a striker after Nathan Ellington joined West Brom.

His move for Windass, who has scored seven goals in five games this season, is a surprise considering his age.

But Bradford have rejected the offer, leaving Jewell - who is also keen on Norwich's Dean Ashton - frustrated.

Canaries boss Nigel Worthington insists 21-year-old Ashton is not for sale, while Trabzonspor say they have received no bid for Turkey star Fatih Tekke, who is also believed to be on Wigan's shortlist.

Despite promotion to the Premiership, the Latics have endured problems all summer trying to land transfer targets.

Scott Parker chose Newcastle ahead of them when he left Chelsea, while Sheffield United turned down a £4m bid for midfielder Phil Jagielka.

Aliadiere makes West Ham loan move

LONDON, England -- Arsenal's French forward Jeremie Aliadiere has ended his Celtic loan spell after just six weeks and joined Premier League West Ham for the rest of the season.

Aliadiere went on loan to Celtic for a year because he wanted to play in the Champions League but he made only two substitute appearances in his time there.

Aliadiere said: "I am disappointed this has not worked out the way I thought it would."

The 22-year-old moved to Glasgow at the start of July after two years in the background at Arsenal.

But the move went sour when he found himself falling down the pecking order behind John Hartson, Maciej Zurawski and promising Scottish youngsters Shaun Maloney and Craig Beattie.

He will now compete for a starting berth with Teddy Sheringham, Marlon Harewood and Bobby Zamora at Upton Park.

Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce says central-defender Sylvain Distin is 'not for sale' following speculation linking the Frenchman with a move to Liverpool.

Pearce said: "I talk regularly to Sylvain, he's my captain. He's a player I admire greatly and I want to build a team around players like him.

"He's a good man and is not for sale. A couple of clubs who had a sniff in the summer were told 'No thanks'."

He added: "Our squad is very thin and getting good players in has been very difficult.

"Sylvain has not been in to see me, nor has his agent.

"If anything, the noises he is making are that he wants to sign a new deal.

"We even talked about that in the summer. We want to secure all our best players on long-term contracts.

"We did it with Shaun [Wright-Phillips, now at Chelsea] and want to do it with Sylvain, too, as he is a big player for us."

Newcastle United manager Graeme Souness has revealed that he's enquired about Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuyt.
Souness said: "We have shown an interest in him; we have made an inquiry.
"He has the most incredible scoring record in Dutch football. Many people have described him as a young Alan Shearer, but whether that's true or not I don't know."

Bolton look set to miss out on signing Croatia defender Igor Tudor.

The 27-year-old Juventus star was due to fly in to England for talks with Sam Allardyce about a season-long loan switch but he has failed to show up.

The Bolton boss fears Tudor, who can also play in midfield, has had second thoughts about moving to the Reebok. "It might be that he thinks we are not quite big enough for him. We would have liked him and have tracked him for a long time," Allardyce explained.

Tudor has three years left on his contract and Juventus are looking for him to get regular first-team football rather than doing a permanent deal.

Anderlecht have beaten West Brom to the signing of Hungarian international Roland Juhasz.

Juhasz has arrived at Anderlecht at MTK Budapest after impressing for club and country last season.

The 22-year-old has inked a three-year deal with the option of another year at the Belgian giants.

Juhasz's agent claims the player snubbed an offer from West Brom to move to Anderlecht.

"Roland has ambition, therefore he chose Anderlecht," said the player's agent.

"He preferred a name as big as Anderlecht above a small club in the English league."

Anderlecht general manager Herman van Holsbeeck was delighted to land Juhasz.

"We have watched Juhasz for several months," said Holsbeeck. "This season is very important, but we have to think about next year also.

"Hannu Tihininen is expected to leave the club after this season, we had to find a replacement and we have found that already with Juhasz."

Blackburn Rovers striker Paul Gallagher has joined Stoke City on a one-year loan.

Stoke's director of football John Rudge told his club's official website: "We are very happy to get Paul. He is a young striker of potential and we think he can do a very good job for us in the Championship.

"He will be in the squad tonight, although he has not had many games recently so that means he may start on the substitutes' bench.

"We came vey close to signing [Jay] McEveley as well, who would have given us extra defensive options, but he decided at the last minute to go to Ipswich."

Michael Owen has agreed to join Newcastle after holding talks with The Magpies and former club Liverpool.

The Real Madrid star held discussions with Newcastle and Liverpool on Monday and he has now agreed a four-year deal at St James' Park.

Owen is currently undergoing a medical on Tyneside and he successfully comes through that he will become the club's new record signing.

The England international's future has been the subject of intense speculation all summer with Real Madrid bringing in Brazilian duo Robinho and Julio Baptista.

Owen had been worried about his international ambitions if he was not going to be playing regularly at Real and he decided that he needed to leave the Spanish club to safeguard his England place ahead of next summer's World Cup.

The news is a massive boost for Newcastle boss Graeme Souness following his side's dismal start to the season which has seen Newcastle fail to win a game and score a goal this season.

Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd hailed the signing of Owen as one of his proudest moments at the club.

"Bringing Michael to St. James' Park will rank alongside the signing of Alan Shearer as my proudest moment at Newcastle United," Shepherd told the club's official website.

"Newcastle fans love centre-forwards and Michael is a fantastic goalscorer. He's someone we would love to build the team around and we hope he can help us bring success to the club."

Owen should make his debut against Fulham in two weeks should he put the finishing touches to his move.
