Adebayor's Arsenal hopes

Emmanuel Adebayor is still holding out hopes that Arsenal will mount a beat-the-deadline swoop for his services.

The Monaco attacker has agreed a new deal to stay at Stade Louis II but has been the subject of late interest from Arsene Wenger, as previously reported on skysports.com.

As it is a dream of his to play for The Gunners, the Togolese striker would jump at the chance to head for Highbury.

"I am very happy to have signed a contract extension," he told France Football.

"At first, the officials and I could not find the right words. There was probably a kind of misunderstanding, but my priority has always been Monaco.

"I've experienced a difficult start to Le Championnat because that matter was always in my mind.

"I was very close to leaving Monaco. West Ham were very keen to sign me. I would have had a much better financial deal than staying in Monaco.

"But my priority has always been on a sporting level and there was no comparison between the two clubs.

"Arsenal also showed a late interest. However, it would have been different with Arsenal as it really is the club of my dreams where my idol Kanu has played.

"Arsenal didn't show their late interest too late; I just believe they didn't want to meet the financial demands of Monaco.

"But nothing is over with Arsenal. Today, I am a Monaco player but anything can happen tomorrow.

"The club could need some money and could sell me, either before August 31 or during the winter transfer window or next season.

"I have the trust of my officials and my coach so far.

"So I will work hard to be equal to that trust."

Bolton Wanderers are closing in on the signing of Southampton midfielder Fabrice Fernandes.

Trotters boss Sam Allardyce is eager to strengthen his squad before the transfer window slams shut on Wednesday and has lined up a move for Fernandes.

Allardyce has expressed a desire to bring in as many new faces as possible with the club facing the extra demands of the Uefa Cup this season.

Fernandes is available on a free transfer after reaching an agreement with Southampton to let him leave for nothing, despite having a year to run on his contract.

Fernandes is keen to leave Southampton and play in The Premiership following Southampton's relegation last season.

The player's agent Willie McKay revealed that a deal had been agreed between both parties and that the player was undergoing a medical.

"Fabrice is up in Bolton currently undergoing a medical," McKay told skysports.com.

"Hopefully, all that goes well and he can sign.

"Everything has been agreed between Fabrice and Bolton and he is keen to get back playing in The Premiership."

Leeds United midfielder Eirik Bakke is in talks with Aston Villa regarding a season-long loan move to the Premiership club.

Bakke's agent Rune Hauge has confirmed that discussions with the Midlands outfit have progressed well, with Wednesday's transfer deadline looming.

"Villa are discussing a loan of Eirik Bakke," Hauge told Dagbladet. "The discussions are going well."

Villa boss David O'Leary is keen to add more new faces before the end of the month, having bought striker Milan Baros for £6.5 million from Liverpool last week.

The Norwegian international has returned to fitness this season after an injury-ravaged campaign at Elland Road last term and O'Leary is well aware of Bakke's abilities when he managed the Scandinavian at Leeds.

Despite expressing a desire to stay with Leeds this season, the 27-year-old may be set for a return to The Premiership with Villa.

One Norwegian midfielder that may soon arrive at Elland Road is Brede Hangeland after his club Viking Stavanger confirmed they are close to a deal with The Whites for the 24-year-old.

Leeds had a previous offer turned down by Viking for Hangeland and Viking are keen to keep hold of the Norwegian international until the end of the current domestic campaign on October 29.

"We have had a dialogue with Leeds and the case is now with them," Viking chairman Ole Rugland told Aftenbladet.

"The suggested deal all depends on the timing of the transfer.

"The ball is now in Leeds' court and they still have time to answer us."

Meanwhile, Leeds boss Kevin Blackwell has denied suggestions that striker David Healy is set to join Premiership side West Ham United.

"This week, we've had speculation about David Healy going to West Ham and it's absolute rubbish," Blackwell told the club's official website.

"Someone decides to create speculation in the papers, but we're not the ones who start it."

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Dutch defender Wilfred Bouma.

Bouma has signed a three-year deal at Villa Park after Villa agreed a £3.5 million deal with PSV Eindhoven.

Villa boss David O'Leary has been chasing defensive reinforcements all summer and he has finally moved to bolster his ranks by bringing in Bouma.

The 27-year-old arrived in England for talks on Monday and he has now put pen to paper on his contract after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.

O'Leary made the move for Bouma because of continued concerns surrounding the fitness of Martin Laursen.

Villa are reported to be have beaten off late interest from Liverpool to land Bouma.

Bouma is Villa's sixth new arrival of the summer, as O'Leary looks to turn Villa into European contenders this season.

Liverpool have swooped to bring in two players just before the deadline in the form of Austrian winger Besian Idrizaj and Welsh Under-21 striker Ramon Calliste.        

Idrizaj is 17 and is Austria's current young player of the year, and has signed a two-year deal with the European Champions after recently enjoyed a trial spell at Melwood.
  
The boyhood Liverpool fan is an attacking midfield and has signed from Linzer ASK in the Austrian league.
  
Idrizaj is delighted with the move and said: "I have always been a Liverpool fan and it is a dream come true to play for them.
  
"If you get a chance to go to Liverpool on trial then you have to take it. You cannot ingore a trial with the reigning Champions League winners. I would even have swam across the channel just to take part."
  
Striker Ramon Calliste, 19, is a Wales Under-21 international and he has signed a one-year deal with Liverpool. He was released by Manchester United at the end of last season and impressed Liverpool during his recent trial spell. Calliste scored for the reserves against Newcastle last week.
  
Both players are included in the Liverpool Reserve team squad for the match against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns on Tuesday night.
