Hamburg have finalised a deal to take Tottenham's Swiss international midfielder Reto Ziegler on loan for the rest of the season.

The German club agreed terms with the 19-year-old last week and have now sorted things out with the club.

Ziegler joined from Grasshoppers last summer and is regarded as one of Swiss football's brightest talents.

But he fell behind Andy Reid in the pecking order and failed to get into the first team this season.

Azar Karadas has cut short his loan spell at Portsmouth to return to Benfica after just a month at Fratton Park.

The Norway international joined Pompey on a season-long loan last month but made an inglorious start to life in The Premiership.

Karadas started the opening three games of the season but was substituted in each and also failed to score.

The imposing forward was also barracked by the Pompey faithful and manager Alain Perrin has seen fit to allow Karadas to return to Portugal.

Benfica coach Ronald Koeman felt his team was lacking a physical presence in attack and asked if he could have Karadas back.

Perrin has accepted the request and Karadas will now look to prove to Koeman he was wrong to sanction his loan in the first place.

In addition to Karadas' return to Lisbon, Benfica have also completed the signing of Juventus striker Fabrizio Miccoli.

The Italy international has joined the former European Cup winners on a season-long loan in the hope of securing regular football.

But Storrie has told skysports.com that the rumours are untrue and that Karadas is still part of Alain Perrin's plans at Fratton Park.

Rangers have opened talks with striker Francis Jeffers about a deadline day switch from Charlton.


The 24-year-old jetted into Glasgow earlier today, with a medical also scheduled.


The former Everton and Arsenal forward has been capped once for England and scored against Australia in a 3-1 defeat at West Ham in February 2003.


Jeffers was an £8million capture by Arsenal in the summer of 2001 on the back of some fine performances for Everton.


But he failed to make a breakthrough at Highbury and was sold on to Charlton for £2.6million in August last year.


He managed just five goals for the Addicks last season and dropped out of the starting line-up this term.

Aston Villa winger Nolberto Solano's return to Newcastle United now looks to be back on.

The Peruvian was linked with a move to St James' Park, providing Villa were given James Milner on loan in exchange.

Earlier on Wednesday, Magpies chairman Freddy Shepherd dismissed any notion of a deal being done.

But it now appears Shepherd has had a change of heart and is trying to push through Solano's return to Tyneside before the transfer deadline, with the player undergoing a medical.

Solano originally left the club for Villa 18 months ago and was linked with a switch to Liverpool earlier this month.

Villa boss David O'Leary scotched any chance of Solano joining the European champions and was adamant the wide man was staying at the club.

O'Leary, though, appears to have been tempted into letting Solano rejoin Newcastle on the proviso he gets Milner.

The Villa boss worked with the England Under-21 international at Leeds United and Milner is understood to be in the Midlands to finalise his switch.

Southampton have wrapped up the signings of international duo Kamil Kosowski and Marcelo Tejera.

Polish midfielder Kosowski has joined Saints from Wisla Krakow, while experienced Uruguayan midfielder Tejera arrives from Penarol.

Kosowski spent last season on loan at Kaiserslautern before leaving Germany to return to Krakow.

He had been interesting Lazio and Panathinaikos, although Dutch giants Feyenoord dropped an interest in the winger.

The 28-year-old has linked up with Saints on a season-long loan from Wisla and watched the club's reserves against Chelsea on Tuesday.

Kosowski has vast experience with the Polish squad and will return to Southampton next week after his country's World Cup qualifiers against Austria and Wales.

Tejera has also joined the Championship club on a season-long loan after impressing manager Harry Redknapp in a brief trial.

The attack-minded midfielder did not require a work permit due to his Italian passport, although he is awaiting international clearance.

The same applies to Kosowski but Saints hope both players will be available for selection for next weekend's game against Queens Park Rangers.

Bolton Wanderers have tied up their move for Southampton winger Fabrice Fernandes.

The former France Under-21 international has joined The Trotters on a one-year contract after severing his ties with Saints.

Fernandes had not made an appearance for the Championship club since January and Saints boss Harry Redknapp has not blocked his exit.

Redknapp's opposite number Sam Allardyce has been chasing Fernandes for several weeks but the deal looked to have fallen through earlier on Wednesday.

Trotters chairman Phil Gartside was rumoured to be reluctant to sanction the signing but has been persuaded to push on with the deal by Allardyce.

The Bolton boss is delighted to have captured Fernandes and will have the 25-year-old available for the club's upcoming debut campaign in the Uefa Cup.

"Fabrice will add depth to our side and, being a left-sided player, he is a rare commodity in the modern game," Allardyce told the club's official website.

"Once I heard that he wasn't affiliated to a club, I moved quickly to bring him in. Fabrice is a high-energy player who knows The Premiership inside out."

Fernandes has been training at The Reebok Stadium for the past couple of days and had no qualms in joining the club.

He said: "I am pleased to be joining such a progressive football club.

"I've been training here for a couple of days and the talent and spirit in the camp was one of the main reasons why I decided to join."

Rangers have completed the signing of Francis Jeffers on loan until the New Year.

Jeffers had been discussing a deal with the Scottish champions on transfer deadline day and has agreed to leave Charlton Athletic.

The striker passed a medical with The Gers on Wednesday evening and has moved to Ibrox until January.

It was initially thought that the England cap would be spending the season in Glasgow but he will return to The Valley in the New Year.

The former Everton and Arsenal forward will be hoping his time north of the border will bring about a change in his fortunes.

Jeffers has endured a disappointing past couple of seasons and will aim to put his career back on track under Alex McLeish.

He had not featured in any of Charlton's first-team squads this term and will challenge the likes of Dado Prso and Nacho Novo for a place in the Rangers attack.

Portsmouth have snapped up Uruguay international Dario Silva on a free transfer.

Silva has signed a two-year contract with the Premiership club after cancelling the final year of his deal at Sevilla.

Earlier this month, it had been thought Silva had secured a deal to leave Sevilla to join Colon in Argentina.

The experienced forward had been informed he did not figure in Sevilla's plans for this season and had been lined up for a return to South America.

But Silva has now clinched a contract to remain in Europe after signing his deal with Premiership strugglers Pompey.

The South Coast club had promised to bring in an established international striker and Silva is the man Alain Perrin has been chasing.

Silva will certainly add a touch of class to the Portsmouth forward line after spending the past six seasons in Spanish football.

Having also played in Serie A for Cagliari, Silva admits he is relishing the chance to play in English football.

"I have played in both Italy and Spain which are very high standard and I rate the Premier League up with them," Silva told the club's official website.


"Also I have heard that the Pompey fans are crazy and I know if I can please them with what I have to offer I hope they will be crazy about me.

"I am very pleased to sign for Pompey and my game is all about hard work and scoring goals and I will offer a lot of both and am looking forward to pulling on the blue shirt."

Pompey had also been interested in Twente Enschede hot shot Blaise N'Kufo but were reluctant to meet the Dutch club's demands.

Twente wanted a fee for the forward but Portsmouth baulked at the suggestion and abandoned plans to sign N'Kufo.

Middlesbrough have signed midfielder Fabio Rochemback and defender Abel Xavier before Wednesday's transfer deadline.

The Premiership club have signed Brazilian Rochemback (pictured) to a five-year deal at The Riverside, while Xavier has concurred on a one-year contract with the North East club.

Rochemback comes to Boro after the Teessiders paid Sporting Lisbon £1 million to help them end the last year of a three-year loan deal for the South American with parent club Barcelona.

Barca confirmed a deal was agreed with Boro on Wednesday to move Rochemback to Steve McClaren's side, as he looks to fill a central midfield position in his squad for the current campaign.

Rochemback is joined at The Riverside by the much-travelled Xavier, who joins Boro on a 12-month deal after finishing last season with Italian giants Roma.

The Portugal international had been training with the Premiership side and the club have secured the services of the right back for the coming campaign.

Xavier enjoyed previous spells in The Premiership with Merseyside giants Everton and Liverpool before heading to Turkey and Istanbul giants Galatasaray.
