Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to sell Thimothee Atouba to Hamburg.

The German outfit have been chasing Atouba since the end of last season and have finally struck a deal with Spurs.

Hamburg were initially reticent to meet Spurs' demands for a £2 million fee for Atouba, but a compromise now appears to have been reached.

The original deal for Atouba was put on hold due Frank Arnesen's situation at White Hart Lane, but Hamburg have now moved back in for the Cameroon international.

Spurs have confirmed that terms have been agreed with Hamburg and have left the matter in the hands of Atouba.

The left back, who can also play in midfield, has travelled to Germany to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.

Atouba has previously voiced a desire to join Hamburg and he will be expected to quickly seal a move to the AOL-Arena.

He only arrived at White Hart Lane last summer on a free transfer from Basel and made 24 appearances during his time in North London.

POMPEY SEAL MBESUMA DEAL

Portsmouth have agreed a deal for Zambian star Collins Mbesuma, although the proposed move is subject to the successful awarding of a work permit.

Charlton Athletic are to seal the signing of Internazionale's Gonzalo Sorondo.

The 25-year-old impressed during a season-long loan at Crystal Palace last term and now he is set for a move back to England.

He will join Charlton on a similar temporary basis, with a view to a permanent deal.

The Addicks, who made their first move for Sorondo last month, are now ready to push through a deal after being granted a work-permit for the South American stopper.

"I'm delighted we look set to secure the services of Gonzalo," said Charlton boss Alan Curbishley.

"He showed while playing for Palace last year that he is well equipped to perform in The Premiership and now he has the opportunity to play in it again with us.

"We have signed him on a one-year loan from Inter and as he is already acclimatised to The Premiership through his time at Palace last year, we are looking forward to him joining up with the squad."

One negative aspect on Sorondo is that he is suspended for the first three games of the new season.

Charlton have moved for Sorondo after Tottenham's Anthony Gardner reportedly failed a medical last week - although there is still some chance that deal may yet be resurrected.

Curbishley is taking advantage of the loan market, having already signed Jonathan Spector from Manchester United - and he is also set to seal the signature of Alexei Smertin from Chelsea - again on a season-long basis.

Everton are turning their attentions to a Brazilian, after losing out to Merseyside rivals Liverpool for the signing of Mohamed Sissoko.

Racing Santander midfielder Anderson Silva da Franca is out of contract and is being pursued by Everton boss David Moyes.

Moyes has struggled to find a suitable midfielder all summer, as his attempts to sign Mikel Arteta on a permanent deal continue to be delayed by excessive demands.

22-year-old Anderson was a consistent figure for Santander last season, and The Toffees have offered the player a four-year contract.

However, Anderson's agent Paul Hodges is doubtful that the offer will be accepted by his client.

Hodges revealed: "From an economic viewpoint and from a football viewpoint, with the Champions League, it is a great offer, but I think the player prefers to stay in Spain."

Israel international Yossi Benayoun claims he has agreed a move to West Ham United.

Reports in Spain have linked the Racing Santander playmaker with The Hammers, with talks rumoured to have been ongoing this week.

Benayoun is leaving Santander after the Primera Liga club accepted an offer of €3.5 million (£2.4 million) from agents Pini Zahavi and Ronen Katsav for his transfer rights.

That deal upset Racing as they had agreed a €5 million (£3.4 million) fee with CSKA Moscow, only for Benayoun to reject a switch to Russia.

The schemer has been holding out for a move to The Premiership, having been linked with Newcastle United, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Bolton Wanderers in the past.

He now appears primed for a transfer to Upton Park after Benayoun revealed he had agreed terms with the Premiership new boys.

"I had many offers, but West Ham attracted me most," said Benayoun.

"My dream has come true.

"It is not about money. I want to be part of the club's adventure back in The Premiership."

If Benayoun's move is pushed through, his arrival will assuage Hammers boss Alan Pardew's concerns about the lack of flair in his squad.

Pardew has also been tipped to make a move for Hammers old boy Fredi Kanoute, with a £4 million offer for the Tottenham striker being mooted.

Allardyce completes Walker deal

Bolton boss Sam Allardyce has signed goalkeeper Ian Walker on a free transfer in time for the club's pre-season trip to Thailand.

The 33-year-old, who was released by Leicester this summer, has agreed a 12-month contract.

"I am delighted that we have acquired a goalkeeper of Ian Walker's ability," Allardyce told the club's website.

"The goalkeeping area did concern me but we now have three quality keepers that will match any other team."

Birmingham's lengthy pursuit of Walter Pandiani could be close to completion, with reports in Spain indicating that Deportivo La Coruna have finally agreed on a fee for the Uruguayan striker.

Blues have been relentlessly pursuing the 29-year-old since he made a good impression on loan at St Andrews for the last six months of last season.

However Steve Bruce could now have landed his man for a fee of €4.2 million after Depor president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro lowered the asking price that had proved to be such a sticking point over the past weeks.

The Spanish outfit had been holding out for €4.5 million although after Lendoiro met Pandiani's agent Eugenio Botas it is believed that Depor have agreed to let the player loose.

A formal announcement is expected later on Thursday, with Pandiani set to seal a three-year deal after turning down Real Zaragoza as well as Turkish outfit Besiktas.

Pandiani's imminent arrival will do much to assuage the transfer fears of Blues boss Bruce after he missed out on Craig Bellamy to Blackburn and failed to bring in Lee Bowyer.

City target Castelen

Manchester City are thought to be lining up a move for Romeo Castelen if Shaun Wright-Phillips does leave the club.

Wright-Phillips' future has been the subject of intense speculation with Chelsea being linked with a mammoth offer for the player.

It is feared that City may have to cash in on the England international to help ease their debts with Chelsea waiting in the wings to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

City would like to keep Wright-Phillips but are drawing up contingency plans in case he leaves.

Eastlands boss Stuart Pearce is drawing up a list of replacements for Wright-Phillips and reports emanating from Holland suggest he is targeting Castelen.

Castelen is in the same mould of Wright-Phillips as he is a pacey right-sided winger and would help fill the void of Wright-Philips should he move on.

A number of other clubs are tracking Castelen and the Dutch international is thought to have rejected overtures from clubs in Russia and in Ukraine.

Feyenoord are keen to keep hold of their prized asset, but would probably struggle to reject any big money offer for Castelen.
